I dont know maybe Im missing something here on this V6 'Fang" shaker hood scoop. Looking at the pictures I dont see any duct/tubing anything connecting the shaker scoop to the air intake box or anyway air is getting into the engine. I know beneath the scoop are the intake runners so the air is not going stright down there, so as far as I can see from the pictures this thing just looks like eye candy. I 'd like to see a dyno proving this scoop gets you any more hp at all. If anything it probably adds to wind drag.

No offense to anyone but I just dont see any "function" here at all.

I have to agree with Rhumb, the shaker hood scoops of old (69-70) worked as they did dumping air directly into a carb which sat right in the middle of the engine , right under the scoop. With todays FI engines , plenum intake runners and all, the air comes in from the front snorkel connected to an air box, a totally different set up than with a carb. So you cant just tack a shaker scoop on todays engines and really have any function other than eye candy. The next Mach 1 needs to have a hood scoop designed fom the factory, somewhere up front that dumps cold air directly into the airbox. Maybe something like the 70-71 twin hood scoops.

Runfox, what you can't see in that photo, is that air is vented from the shaker, back up through ducting within the hood (hood is hollow), which routes the air over to the factory air filter area. See attached picture and notice the openings in the hood on both sides of the shaker (intake) and the open on the right side (outake)

Having said that, I still didn't understand how this new setup was any improvement so, in the Fang forum, I inquired about how the airbox worked.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'> How is this airbox setup better than just routing the air from the hood out the hole above the factory airbox (like your original setup)

Just having a hard time understanding the benefits of the ram air box (as compared to just routing air on top of the factory airbox)
Their response

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'> The Ford air box is designed for air to be pulled from the side of the box through the air filter then into the intake delivery tube. Simply cutting a hole in the top of the box would allow unfiltered air to pass directly into the engine.
We received many request for a ram air box that would allow our hoods to be functional without changing to a cold air intake. Cold air intakes may void warranties. The ram box is made of two pieces. The top with a port hole to seal against our hoods, and a side draft tube that allows air to flow to the side of the Ford box near the bottom. Air will then be able to pass through the factory air cleaner.
Our intent was not to create a cold air intake with this setup. There are plenty available. The benefit of having the air channeled into the air cleaner box as opposed to having the air blow on top of the Ford box is simply putting the cooler air where it will do you more good. When we origionally designed our hoods, they were setup with this ram box in mind.
If you study the Ford unit, you will see air is taken in from an area behind the drivers side fender. The ram box we designed augments that air supply. There is no pressure buildup within the Ford air box. Getting the cooler air where is belongs is a good thing.
I gather from their response that this new set up is designed to avoid warranty issues caused by installing CAI. I have not seen a S-197 factory airbox, so I can't comment on how effective this setup would work. My hunch is that any hp gains would be minimal. Like it has been said before, shakers systems from CDC and Fang are mostly cosmetic. Any hp gains is icing on the cake.

I would perfer power packages:

- the standard 281 ( 4.6 ) with 300 HP
- A 331 ( 5.4 ) with mid to high 300s
- A 351 ( 5.8 ) with low to mid 400s

It should stay under the shelby 475 HP

It should come with the Mach 1 Package for graphics, interior, dash, seats, lighting, louvers, etc

but knowning how business is these days; they will just stick a super charger in it and walk away ... sigh.

I am debating the triptonic transmission; personally i love them since I drive one. But I perfer the shifter on the floor; paddle shifting is okay. But the retro-design of the automatic shifter makes for a poor triptonic shifter. Having six speeds on the auto is worth it though.

Grabber colors would be nice and a great way to stickout from all the current metallic-based glitter colors.

ehhh all talk until we see it.

In no particular order:

Grabber colors.
70 Mach 1 styling cues
N/A 5.4 with around 400hp
6-speed manual
improved suspension
Magnum 500 wheels

That's about it.

IDK, there's just something about that hood that just doesn't look right. I don't think it looks that good on this body style. I would prefer something more like the 69/70 hood.

Just my $0.02.

The Chevy cowl hood with a shaker.... nope, don't like it.

There is no such thing as a '72 429 Mach 1.

In 1972 the ONLY engine choices were:
250 - 1V (I6)
302 - 2V
351 - 2V
351 - 4V
351 - 4V HO - Only a handful were made, option was dropped in Nov 1971

71-72-73 Mustangs were pretty ugly, as least your photochop is a nice improvement over the original.

Tell that to the guy that drove one around vegas in diamonds are forever. That's what he used for the racing in the streets scenes. And a lighter weight 302 engined car for the two wheel stunt down the alley.

Uh, your link says it's a 1971 Mach 1 429.

In 1971, you certainly could get a 429 in a Mustang, both the 429 Cobra Jet and the 429 Super Cobra Jet.

But in 1972 both the 429CJ and 429SCJ were gone. Actually they were discontinued in May 1971 and replaced by the 351CJ. For '72 only the low compression 429-4V was left, but you couldn't get it in a Mustang.

While at the 2005 Dream Cruise in Mustang Alley I noticed this little number being ignored for the most part since it wa sparked next to the yellow GT500 on display. I was told by some people from Ford that you could see something like this come out with possibly a anme from the past that Ford owns like say...Mach 1. He was very sarcastic about and had a big grin on his face while we were talking about. Just something to keep an eye out for.
