Ford can't afford to have more than four mechanically unique versions of the 'Stang going at once. It'd be stupid to waste one of those on a hi-po V6. Ford really would be best off sticking the D35 in all V6 'Stangs. (Maybe do a tape/badge special edition or something.)

As for the GT engine, by 2009, it will need at least 340hp. Ford will accomplish that with the cheapest changes possible (whether increased displacement, DOHC, direct injection, or whatever.)

The S/E should make around 400hp without gaining any weight.

And the GT500 could come with a built in deep freezer for all I care.
(I personally don't think any Mustang should ever cost more than forty thousand inflation adjusted dollars. At that price point, one would be a fool to buy anything but the Vette.)

If I can have any of the above, give me a 5.0L 32V 420+ HP with a six speed; I'll do the rest.

I dunno, I don't think 40k is to much to pay for a mustang if thats your passion. Now if crunchy stuff like specs and performance numbers are your game, then yes any vehicle that does not exceed the vettes performance for the same or cheaper is money foolishly spent.

Looks like exarkun did (2 posts up). He pretty much nailed the GT. Sure it seemed like a pipe dream at the time. Then again maybe he's on the inside

I saw that post as well, but figured he was just talking out loud only. But he was spot on, or very close indeed. I'd like to have a little chat with him about the new upcoming powertrains for the remake of the 2014 Mustang. Maybe he'll come out of the limbs once more, who knows.

Can I take it "Montreal Ponies" was responsible for the appearance of this in the 2010+ area?

Is interesting all that speculation though.

Base -275 bhp Ecoboost I4 - 3200 lb
GT - 425 bhp Ecoboost V6 - 3300 lb
Mach I - 475 bhp DOHC DI 5.0L - 3350 lb
Cobra - 600 bhp DOHC Turbo DI 5.0L - 3450 lb
