I had a feeling that's what it stood for, but wondered why people were calling it "the DSS" "a DSS" and "my DSS"

Just checked my tire pressure. All four tires were a little down on air. I'll be driving the 5.0 tomorrow after about 6 weeks of idle time.

Got my factory driveshaft re-installed and took it for a drive.

Felt good to be behind the wheel again, to no longer be looking at it on jackstands in the garage.

Got into boost a couple of times too

 

Glad you're back on the road Gabe! So what's your plan with the next driveshaft? Was the old under warranty?

 

It wasn't under warranty, it was 2.5 years old, DSS only has a 1-yr warranty.

Gonna continue to run the factory shaft for now.

Gonna fix the DSS and sell it, and wait to get a new 1-piece when I finally get the T56, whenever that might be, since that will require a new shaft anyway.

 

I have to go back to my stock suspension for a while, so Ford will cover my screwed up rear end (that I'm convinced wasn't repaired right the first time around).

I really want to put the stock stuff on myself to save money. Do you guys think I'll be able to assemble the strut mount/spring/strut and get the assembly in without spring compressors? I know I didn't need them to get the stock stuff out, but going back in is a different story. The rear end suspension is cake so I'm not worried about that at all.

 

The Axle Exchange makes a top quality one piece aluminum driveshaft. I have this for my 2011 and it has been great. You buy this from American Musscle and in all the years of research I have done I have yet to find anyone that has had any issues with this drive shaft

 

In order to get the strut mount nut started you will have to compress the spring. Just go to auto zone or oreilys and rent a spring compressor. It won't cost you a thing just leave a deposit and you'll get that back when you return the compressor.

 

What happened to the rear end Patrick?

 

Ah yeah you're right. Trying to avoid those death traps though. I may just do the rear end stuff myself then take it to have the front end done since it would need an alignment anyways.

 

It had bad whine since day one, but I bought the car out of state so I couldn't have it addressed then. Read online and a lot of people said it was normal with the Track Pack, so I went forward with suspension mods. Finally got tired of it so I took it in to the dealer in August last year and they said it was overly loud. They rebuilt it with new pinion, bearings and seals.

Couple months later the whine came back but not nearly as bad - however, it also developed a chirping vibration on throttle tip-in. I finally installed my BMR adjustable UCA and mount, relo brackets and LCAs to see if that would make the noise go away, knowing the pinion angle was off after being lowered. Well it helped, but noise still there.

I take it back into the dealer and they notice the UCA and try to blame it on that. I explained to them the noise came before I added those parts and actually the UCA is helping the pinion angle. They start a hotline with Ford engineering and Ford tells them that if I put the factory UCA back on, they'll cover the repair. So I do. The dealer keeps it for another week and now Ford says they need to rule out the aftermarket parts altogether so now they won't cover it unless the rear end is completely back to stock.

Well, I'm not going to do this again, so I figure instead of just putting the rear back to stock like they said, I'll just put all the stock suspension on to get the repair done, to be sure it's done right. Drive around stock for a month or two, then finally install my airlift kit. That would also allow me to sell my Koni Yellows and H&R Supersports. I just don't want to pay to put the stock suspension back on!!

That wicked sucks Patrick. I hope they resolve the issue for you once and for all. Kind of works out well for you as you're going to sell the aftermarket parts to get the air suspension anyways. Good luck bro!
