VMP Tune for Magnuson Supercharger!!! Finally!!!
http://vmptuning.com/vmp-custom-tunes/50lmsctune/
Guess what I found while perusing the VMP site? I'm not sure how long they've had this now. But I remember contacting them last year, post installation of my blower, to inquire if they supported a Maggie blower, and they said no. Perhaps they got enough inquiries and requests that now they support it.
Since I already have an SCT (X3 I think) that came with the Maggie Kit, all I'll need to do is pay for the tune itself, so that deducts 200, and should cost me 160 bucks, right?
I need to contact them directly to inquire about the possibility of:
a) a custom CAI that they sell to go with the Maggie kit (requires a different elbow)
b) a smaller pulley that would go with the whole setup, for slightly more boost
Would it be fair to say that if I go this route, this should eliminate the need for a custom dyno tune, since VMP is so highly touted, that I could literally just take their custom email tune per my "updated" Maggie setup (pulley, intake), and load it, and be done?
I have to admit, I'm a bit excited at this prospect.

You will still have to do a few datalog runs and send them to Justin to look at. I am sure you will have a revision or 2 of the tune from Justin that you will have load.
Who did you purchase the blower from.

I've heard good things about Justin, but if Lund supports Maggie's I'd go that route. I just finished tuning for my 2.9L Whipple with him, and he's very thorough. 4 revisions until I could go WOT, and 5 revisions after that... The car feels great, and he's letting me try a cam tune for the positive displacement blowers, hope to dial that in a couple weeks from now. The customer experience has been great, and Lund's accolades speak for themselves.

I just checked Lund Racing, and I didn't see where they supported a tuning session for Magnuson. I think they mentioned it generally speaking, that a supercharger will require a remote tune session. I assume that means a few datalog runs, then email to them, they make a tune, email back, I test out, datalog again, then repeat process till perfect?
What exactly is the process for datalogging? Is it as easy as plugging my SCT X3 to my OBD port, then USB to a laptop, open excel, voila?

Burton, the tune is $359 if you have your own tuner, not $160
JDM charged me $320 for my supercharged tune, and they never had to revise anything after sending them datalogs.
Have you tried contacting JDM yet?

The tvs and maggie are both PD blowers so I would think the tuning would be similar, so that would make it easier for vmp to tune it.
I purchased mine through vmp and asked about updated tunes for various add on parts and I was told the updates are free as long as I buy the parts from vmp. Might not help you now, but it might help down the road once you get the initial tune from them.

I need to contact jdm. Got a contact number and name for me?

Tony, it's a disease!!! My goal is CAI (need to contact jlt or cfm), smaller pulley, then custom tune.
So my options for tuners are:
Bob Kurgan
VMP
Lund
JDM
Will I be happy with any of the 4? Hopefully they can deal with the Maggie blower...

That is good to know! Yeah sounds like you and most folks are happy with vmp tuners?
Gabe my bad... Not sure where I got those arithmetic skills. You would think being an engineer in my past life I could do simple math lol. My excuse is I was conferenced in on a status meeting so I was preoccupied . Does that count? Lol

New to the site and new to the coyote family.
I just recently purchased a 2011 Kona Blue with a magnuson that was tuned by Ken Bjones from Lund. The car runs and idles awesome. My only complaint is the fuel economy, but that might have to do with leaning on it every chance I get.
In any event, he was able to squeak out just over 600 on his dyno before I purchased it (I'm lucky enough to be in south Florida) on the MT82 at 9.5#s.
A bit off topic, but does anyone have any idea where the limitation on the Maggie is (psi wise)? I'm thinking about getting an aluminator in the future, but only if I can get over 750RWHP with the Maggie. If not, I'll just leave it at the 600 it makes now and continue to have fun with it!!!

Whoa whoa!!! Welcome! I've rarely heard of a magnuson blown coyote making over 600whp. That's great! What other supporting mods are there on the car? Also, what is the contact number for Lund racing? I can't even get a phone number from their site... hopefully they can do remote tuning
It's got a laundry list of nice stuff done, but here's the performance stuff:
Custom Airade Cai
Kooks Long Tube Headers
Kooks Catted Hpipe
Kooks over the axle pipes
Gt 500 Axle Back
Jlt Oil Seperator
Car was originally dyno tuned by Dan at Pro Dyno and made 622 Rwhp and 543 Rwtq on 9 psi. My friend bought this car last year and had Ken check the tune and power on his dyno. I don't remember the exact numbers but they were over 600 (but not over the 622 that was made at Pro Dyno, but this is South Florida).
I don't have Ken's #, but reach out to the guys at Power by the Hour. Speak to Frank (tell him Diego sent you) and let him know what you're looking for.

Heheh...nice looking Kona, and it's almost as good-looking and almost as fast as mine.
On the subject, I'd go through John Lund. He's tuned mine twice, both are conservative tunes and I'm making 660 at the wheels right now. He does have a preference for KB first, but he also does Whipple blowers. He's also very busy, so it may not be a typical business transaction (might take a while to get things done unless you're lucky and know someone like I did).

ok, update...
I called 2 places today. VMP and JDM
VMP: Spoke to Steve over there. Nice guy. Sounds like they started picking up some Magnuson work because of some stangs and F150's that have gone to them for tuning. So Justin started working on them. They've done a handful. They don't sell any intakes or pulleys for the Magnuson (they do for the Roush, obviously). So if I decide to go with an intake and pulley upgrade, I'd have to get those elsewhere, then do the datalogging and tweaking at that point.
Overall sounds good... but I get the impression that they're very busy, and I'm "one of their many customers". I'm sure I'd get decent service and quality of product there.
JDM: To be honest, I was shocked with my experience with a simple phonecall there. In a good way. I spoke to Jim Jr. there. What a great guy. Very friendly, very open... in the end, I felt like I (the customer) "mattered" to him. I'm not just one of thousands of customers that they deal with everyday. He was attentive, eager, and happy to answer my questions. So right off the bat, I was pleased.
Technically, I also liked what I heard. They have dealt with only a handful of Magnuson stangs, which is expected. However, they do have a copy of the Magnuson base tune already from previous cars, so I don't have to datalog my current setup. They can either set me up with a JDM tune with the stock kit intake and pulley, or they can wait till I get the intake and pulley, and they can write a new base tune with those 2 added mods. They have written tunes for other stangs like mine with the Maggie plus the intake and pulley, so they have a good reference that will be very close if not spot on. So I was pleased with that.
Best of all, apparently a Roush CAI (box only) will fit with NO mods needed. I will use the elbow I currently have, but the Roush CAI box should drop in the stock spot. So that's good to know. They sell the Roush CAI.
He is also going to look at a smaller pulley for me, and where to get it from.
So if I go with JDM, I have to decide if I go with a tune now, based on the stock Maggie setup for $350, then if I add mods later, it costs $50 to $100 to tweak the tune. Or wait till I add the intake and pulley mods, then tune. Hmmmmmmm.... thoughts?
I still have to contact Lund. I can't believe they have no phone #....

I say that you just wait for the new parts to get a tune, I can't imagine you will see a huge difference between the tune you have now and the JDM one, atleast not 350$ worth of a difference.
What size pulley is on there now?
