Cool VIN Timeline? I'm So Psyched! :D

Hey guys... almost six years ago, I ordered my very first new car - an '05 Mustang GT. Fast forward to the present, and I place my order for a 2011 Mustang GT (Premium, M/T, 3.73s, Brembo Brake Package, HID headlights, Security Package) on 6/30. Now, I'm feeling that same excitement I felt when I ordered my '05. I find myself drooling at pictures of the 5.0 motor. I'm scouring youtube for sweet videos of 2011 GTs... you guys know the deal.

I know have to be patient. I know I'm in for a wait, probably a long one. I know enough not to pester my dealer. BUT, I was just curious (and I couldn't seem to find a consistent thread on this topic), what's the average time for your car to be VINed? I notice people seem to be getting them faster now as compared to those who order back in Jan/Feb/Mar/Apr. Also, do you receive your Priority Code at the same time as the VIN??

Oh man, I can't wait!!

Your priority code is (usually) determined by the dealership when they place it, so it should already be on your order. It can be anywhere from 1-4 weeks, check on Thursdays, as Wednesday night (so I hear) is when they generate VINs. I tend to wait until Fridays though because I believe Thursday night is when they schedule builds.

Well, I ordered my '05 in the beginning of August '04 and didn't get it unil 11/18/04, so I know it can take awhile. No worries.

Just can't wait to get my 5.0 to E-Town Raceway, baby! Rip up some Camaros and rice burners.

Retail order verification ended on 5/31, which means the time it takes to get your VIN will depend on the dealership's allocation. Mine took 4 weeks to get a VIN after ordering, I've seen some take 2 weeks. I don't know what my priority code is however my dealership was in contact with their Ford Rep who could tell them exactly when they would have allocation for my car and they were dead on.

I order all the Mustangs for our store. Some VIN's are issued within a week of placing the order, some take longer (several weeks). Depends on how many Mustangs the dealer is allocated for that given week, whether any equipment included on that order is currently not available due to vendor constraints, and whether that dealer has other Mustangs prioritized better than yours. The priority code is set by the dealer initially so as to tell Ford which order to build them (assuming that trim & equipment is available to schedule that given week).

also the plant is shut down for 2 weeks for mandatory vacation...so there will be a 2 week gap that you need to consider.

For the vacation, does that mean they just stop building or do they stop assigning VINs as well?

I'm not sure to be honest, I know they are still shipping what's already been produced but nothing else is in production for the next 2 weeks. Seems like a lot of VIN's got assigned last week so I'm kinda doubtful there will be anymore until it's over but we will see.

I asked my salesman the same question. The only thing that has stopped is the actual production. Shipping is still taking place, along with the scheduling of future builds.

It's worth the wait but enjoy the summer now and you'llbe happy in a few weeks...

It was a two week vacation, but it started last week. They're back in production Monday.
