i think your making wrong choice...
-can you afford payments on new car plus whatever other depts you owe (house/school for kids ect ect)..if one of you where to get layed off? if your stocks turn to losses? ect ect
-how long will the 10g last if above happens...then you would be forced to sell new mustang at even a greater loss
...i would sell your 07 mustang and put most of that money towards paying off any depts you owe...i can understand your love of mustangs...so im not gonna say buy a used civic/corolla (even if that best return on $)...maybe a nice used V6 05/06 stang
be carefull, dont get in over your head...best of luck

I have certainly considered the scenario you've presented, and in great detail I might add. You make a valid point and I appreciate your feedback. I'm not excited about increasing my debt in the long run, but my decision is based on surviving finacially for the next 2 years of my life.
As shallow as it may sound, having a Mustang is my identity. Everybody I know thinks "Mustang" when they hear my name. I am the Mustang guru, so to speak, where I work and they're in my blood. I even have a Mustang tattoo. Life without a Mustang would drive me insane - literally. I can't do a V6 Mustang - I tried to talk myself into it - but I gotta have that V8 rumble.
Also, the final math works out to my monthly car payment going down $60 per month. I'm guesstimating my fuel expense to drop about $40 per month. That's $100 per month minimum in my favor. Consider that maintenance is much cheaper on a new car vs my modified '07 and that the '11 has a fresh new warranty while the '07 is long out of warranty, and keeping the '07 would have meant much more money out of pocket. So, I am not only banking a ton of cash by trading in my '07, but I'm lowering my monthly expenses, as well. That is ultimately what made the decision a no brainer for my wife & I.

One of my buddies is a financial analyst said he could not fathom spending money on cars because his priorities are different. Buying a Mustang already is a value choice that is heavily influenced by emotion. So I think the purchase is now a matter of what specific parts of the driving and ownership experience are most important and can that fit within the monthly budget.
I recently went through this same value analysis on a 2012 Boss 302. I needed to sell my other Mustang ('01 supercharged Bullitt) for it to happen. When I looked at what I was getting and giving up, it became apparent to me that the most important aspects of Mustang ownership for me were split among my 2010 GT and '01 Bullitt. I love the Boss 302 and want one, but at this time, I chose to wait another model year and wait for a DIFFERENT COLOR to be offered (grabber blue), as well as look at what might help my Bullitt to sell. Of course, I might have so much fun driving that over the summer that I would forgo a Boss 302 all together.
Is any of that "rational"? Perhaps not, but it is part of a decision process that I believe many car enthusiasts go through when they look at this major purchase.

UPDATE: My supercharged '07 GT is now just a memory - traded it in tonight toward my new Sterling Gray '11 GT. Only options on the '11 are the Brembo Package and 3.73's. Very bittersweet day, but it had to be done.
I got pics of it being unloaded from the transport truck this morning and a few side by side pics of my '07 and '11, but I'll start a new thread and post pics there on Wednesday (got a lot to do tomorrow). I haven't even test driven it yet (just got the paperwork done this evening and have had to work all day), but it's official and I'm driving the '11 GT home tonight. Called my insurance agent and the insurance premiums are lower than my '07!
Thanks to all for guiding me through this very agonizing ordeal. So glad I stayed with a V8.

I will buy Jack Stands!!!
Didn't read the whole thread, but that I'd add. If you're needing to tighten up the budget, sell the '07, buy a $10k used car and pocket the other $12 grand
EDIT: disregard that, and CONGRATS!!

Here's some pics from yesterday...
Coming off the truck, waiting to get cleaned up, and then parked next to my '07 GT. Cell phone pics, so not the best quality...
