Traction Problem, are Tires the Answer?

I have a 2012 gt auto with stock 18". I have thought of getting some LCAs and UCAs, but have been told that tires is whats going to help the most. So what tires do you all recommend for my stock 18"? Street radials? What size?

So then those dunlops are the best tires to have for traction? Are they better overall than street radials?

dunno I went with #2 on the list. Go wider in the back ifin you can. it was hard for me to find a matched set in the sizes I wanted. Ya gotta shop around. Wider IS better

You havent said what traction problem your having. Is it wet weather traction or tracktion at the track, or something else? I race my car and have managed to get into the 11s tune only on the stock 18 inch pirellies.

I think alot has to do with your right foot, if you just slam it, it's going to blow the tire off. A radial will out perform ANY street radial in dry/warm conditions. My stock pirellies took me LOW into the 12s, could of squeezed an 11 if I dropped the air from 36psi I'm sure. Try rolling into the power a little more "even" and after(never drove a auto) 3500 just lay into it. Best of luck, but the parts you listed will help.

Adding weight to the trunk will help too. In the summer I keep a 60lb sandbag in the trunk. In the winter, I keep 120. Just push the bag up into the trunk until it's basically over the rear axle. If it's sitting right above the axle you should only get benefits with increased traction and not lose any overall acceleration.

If it was me I would get michaelin pilot super sports in 245/45/18 with you keeping the stock wheels. I get tired of explaining how wider tires are not better so I won't right now. These tires at this size will give all around better traction in every area with a little smaller sidewall than stock for better turn in.
