Traction Control

My wife and I were coming home from eating dinner earlier tonight when we got stopped at a traffic light. While sitting there she looks at me and says "lets see what this thing can do." There is nobody around when the light turned green, so I floored it. I ended up spinning through first gear and half of second with traction control on. Is this normal? I have a 2012 automatic mustang gt with 31k miles.

I have an MT82, but it definitely lets me spin quite a bit as long as it's in a straight line.

Really lets you spin. It's great because in my GenCoupe I had to turn it off to have any fun, ANY slip of the tires led to an instant cut in acceleration.

In the Stang I can have plenty of fun without having to turn it off, it's great

I was curious about that in my 14 GT/CS, so with the computer off I loaded the converter to 1500 rpm and let her rip. Heavy wheel spin (no noticeable hop) but good acceleration with the tach almost seeing 6000 before the tires finally pulled the revs down to about 5600, then charging back up to 6500 for the auto shift to second. Second didn't spin very long but it was a cool ride.

With the computer on there was way less wheel spin but they were sliping. It sounded like a little wheel hop too. Probably the brakes pulsing. The Trac Apps said the first pass was just slightly faster.

I think we need more tire.

I have the manual. If traction control is on and the tires spin, it disables my acceleration kind of like ABS - shifting through gears would get me no where

Hello ejohnson07,

Welcome to the forum! My name is Deysha with Ford Service. If you feel this is not normal, I recommend you bring it in to your dealer and have it checked out. Your service manager is in the best position to look into this for you and can check into any warranty, assistance, recalls, or customer satisfaction programs that may apply to your vehicle.

Also, remember repairs done at a Ford Dealer come with a 24 months/unlimited miles warranty. You can schedule an appointment online here.

Perhaps I'm confused, or perhaps there's something different about my 2012 GT with the MT82 tranny, but when I step on it, the tires will spin, even if I'm already in 2nd before stepping on it. However, I don't get any type of acceleration reduction. It just keeps going as long as my foot is heavy. I don't notice any wheel hop unless I'm accelerating over a rough or ridged surface. This car has massive power and I can spin the tires without even going to WOT. Just halfway and it responds. Personally, I love it.

Yep, mine too. Same thing. I haven't dared to launch it with tc off.

While on the Dyno we reset something and forgot to turn the tc off again, man did it have a fit on the next run, no way would it let those wheels spin! very embarrassing and quite an education.

I must add this was a 1/4 mile simulation run with an audience.

Give it a go with TC off. For me it was a huge difference! And, let us know what happens.

Thanks for the responses guys. I will try to launch with tc off (if there is no water or people around) and let you guys know how it goes. Deysha, I don't think it was an issue per say. Its just a little different from mh 07 gt. In my 07 as soon as I started spinning the tc would stop acceleration until I gained traction.

My very first burnout was with the TC on. That was embarrassing. Right in front of my cruising buddies.

I lined up against one of my very good friends in his 68 Fastback. Left traction control on not at all thinking twice about it. After dropping the clutch and blowing the tires of the traction control kicked in and I was left in the dust...

I still recommend you get it looked at and be on the safe side, CLARKIES GT. Let me know the outcome.

I understand, ejohnson07. I’m here if you need me.
