Track Pack Engine Oil Confusion
Track Pack Engine Oil Confusion
I used Motorcraft 5W-50 (XO-5W50-QGT) when I did my first oil change. Pricey and hard to find.
It does not have an API SN certification mark on the label.
It does have an API SN service mark which seems to contradict the information in my owners manual.
Directly from my owners manual:
"Engine oil with Track Pack (Footnotes 6,7,8)
8.0 quarts (7.6L) (5.0L engine)
Motorcraft Full Synthetic 5W-50 Motor Oil XO-5W50-QGT / WSS-M2C931-B"
Footnotes 6,7,8:
6. Your engine has been designed to use Motorcraft engine oils or equivalent oils that meet Ford specifications. It is also acceptable to use an engine oil of recommended viscosity grade that meets API SN requirements and displays the API Certification Mark for gasoline engines.
7. Do not use supplemental engine oil additives in your engine. They are unnecessary and could lead to engine damage that is not covered by your Ford warranty.
8. Do not use API S category oils labeled as SN, SM, SL or lower category unless the label also display the API certification mark. These oils do not meet the requirements of the engine and emissions system.
So I guess I am okay with my warranty using Motorcraft XO-5W50-QGT that does not have an API SN certification mark but no other brand such as Castrol Edge 5W-50?

Any other brand will need to meet API SN requirement and have to display the API Certification Mark for gasoline engines on the label.
You should be just fine with your warranty using Motorcraft XO-5W50-QGT.

The way I read the owners manual is, the recommended Motorcraft 5W-50 (XO-5W50-QGT) does not need to have the API SN certification mark on the bottle label.

That is why I spent big bucks to buy it.
It just seems odd that theirs is not API SN certified and it costs a whole lot more than the other non API SN certified options.
My oil change cost $130.00 and I did it myself.
Granted this included a $20.00 Ford Racing FL820 filter and I have a spare quart.

Much better deal from K-Man parts

Even with shipping it comes out to around $93.00 (depends on where it's shipping to).
If you just ordered oil with no filter the cost is $8.00 per quart without shipping.
I'm using Amsoil 10w40 XL full synthetic and love it.
6-7k in-between oil changes, no oil additions needed/done, and the Used-Oil Analysis from Blackstone Labs came back great.
This is an older test, the first one for the Amsoil:

Maybe a bit OCD.
That's how I am wired. Never going to change.
