Too late to order a 2011?

On another thread, kws6000 says that he talked to some dealers (Canada) and they said unless you already have an allocation, it's too late to order a 2011. Any more further info on that rumour and if it's true, what happens to my order that has been in since the beginning of August?

I don't know about Canada but they won't close ordering here for quite a while.

Seems pretty early, production isn't supposed to end until I think January. I know production is slowed with only one shift, but surely they can't have all 3 months of production allocated out.

Unless your dealer gets allocation for your build...your car wont get built....I would contact your dealer....

If its a dealer that only had an allocation of 2 2011 mustangs, and they already sold both of them, they are not going to get any more. If thats the case, you try a differant dealer...

You could wait for a '12 and have a "one year newer" car. You might pay the same, too.

That's actually possible.

2012 Initial order acceptance 11/8/2010
2012 Scheduling begins 12/2/2010
2012 Production begins 1/18/2011

Possible, but still iffy about the date you specified. Not many changes so it should hopefully go smoother than 2011 did, so if Ford sticks to this schedule I could see 2012 Mustangs hitting the streets by March. Now whether or not your order comes in by that date, it's hard to say, it would depend on allocation and how Ford decides to handle stock/retail. With 2011 they built stock orders for the first month so they could run thorough quality checks on them, rather than on retail orders. With so few changes though, this may not be as much an issue, but it's really not a sure bet with it being a fresh model year, there are several factors that could cause it to come before or after that date.

I'll just say if you do go 2012, I'd order it from a decently high volume dealer the day the order banks open, and keep track if they offer retail order verification this time around. With the 2011s they offered that for a little while and you could actually use it to ignore allocation concerns on your car.

Do all cars make it almost a year in advance? Seems like not long ago you always saw a new car come out in September (maybe built in June)? Weird to me that a 2012 could be made on 1/18/2011? Why not just call them a 2015 and we could have a new car for a very long time?

Ford has been trending toward earlier and earlier production lately. 2011 MY Mustang was early too, but not that early. Trying to stay a step ahead of the competition I guess.

I think it's kind of stupid releasing them so early. A guy asked me the other day what year my car was and I said "2010". He said, "Oh, a new one, nice." When I told him I'd had it for almost a year and a half he looked a bit confused.

I've wondered if they aren't setting up for 2014 with the rumored completely new body and getting them out to dealers in time for the 50th anniversary. To be fair, Mustangs have always done this. The original Mustang was released April 17, 1964, and all of them were VIN coded as 1965s.

Thats good info however- Jan 3rd all the promo's end currently i know we have 1500 rebate for lease turn in and 1000 rebate from ford. If we wait for 2012 who knows what rebates will be. Im banking that 2011 offers will be better than 2012 come march.

Now if only i can get a 2011 in time and get this 750 coupon as well. Il be doing good
