Greetings all.

I have the Brembo pack on my Mustang, which comes with 255/40R19 tires. While I do like the Brembo wheels, I'm considering getting some aftermarket ones. I'd prefer either chrome or machined finish to "pop" a little more against my Red Candy paint.

One of the things I've been considering is going with 255/45R18, which allows me more wheel options, as well as adding 1/2 inch in sidewall, while maintaining the same tire diameter.

Will the extra sidewall height impact overall ride quality for the better? My car is a daily (summertime) driver, and I have to drive over some real crap to and from work. Or will it really depend on the brand of tire and the compounds used?

should get a slighly better ride with 255/45-18's.. make sure whatever rims you're looking at clear the brembo's

 

the only problem is that you're going to be really short on wheel options using 18" wheels and brembo brakes.

 

Aaron, the suspension included with the Brembo Package is really the major cause of the rough ride quality, IMHO. I have an '11 5.0L Brembo GT and went with an all-season 255/50/19's to better fill the wheel wells and soften the ride with more sidewall, and the ride isn't really much - if any - better than the factory 255/40/19's.

I went with Continental Extreme Contact DWS's and they're great tires year 'round - even in light snow....

 

18's are a little more affordable, quite a bit in some cases.

To clear big brakes, look at some of the Enkei, Forgestar, TSW and Vorshlag.

Changing wheel/tire size was just an idea - something I'll have to think some more about. Really my thought process was changing the look of my car with the added benefit of a slight increase in ride quality. I'll have to contemplate this some more. I'd give my eye teeth to be able to drop the car 1" all around - but that would make things worse rather than better.

Check these out...made by bridgestone...love these tires, stock size and huge ride improvement! Not a cheap tire at 1500+ installed but worth it IMHO for the long haul...aka the next 6-10k miles...
