Absolutely disagree. Oh man, this is a pet rock of mine. Actually you could say anyone who drives a Mustang is a “pretender” using that logic. We all drive cars that “look” like the Shelby, but aren’t.

Carroll Shelby has no trademark on the LeMans stripes; there are PLENTY of other cars out there that have had the same basic theme (I’ve seen 2010 Camaros with LeMans striping, not many thankfully, but they’re out there). The “pretender” would actually be one who puts “GT 500” or “GT 350” or “Shelby” lettering on a non-Shelby car.

To me the deciding factor (in addition to not using any actual trademarked lettering) is the fact that a 2011 GT can outrun & out-handle pretty much any pre-2000’s Shelby, so it isn’t like anyone with a 5.0 is sullying the legendary brand (except for the wimpy exhaust sound of the stock 2011 GT). A 1976 Mustang II might be a different story….

I'm going with a Charcoal Metallic on my Perf. white.... Close to the Brembo wheel color. I'll have it done tomorrow...If I don't like it, I'll peel them off and go again...

Thanks Steve! It should be pretty unique.....Wide stripe with 2 narrow ones on the sides, abbreviated on the hood (bulge only) then over the top. We'll see soon! Waiting for the Stripes to arrive today...:-)

Will do! It'll be this one, though I think I'll shorten the front to just cover the hood bulge. The classic double Lemans stripe is so common. We'll see how it looks! I've got the car cleaned and all the center lines marked out. Shouldn't take a lot of time to do..

I think that will look good. Particularly because you said you were going to cut it at the hood bulge. I don't think stripes all the way down to the grill look good on '10+ GTs, but when it stops at the bulge it complements the car better

It's worth it, IMO. I've seen plenty of stripes up close and the ones painted on ALWAYS looked best!

Painted stripes are so much easier to maintain, too.

Tape stripes do not keep their new appearance for very long and you will not be happy with them in just a few months unless you don't drive the car. I've had both, painted and vinyl. The painted lasted and were still there when I sold it, the vinyl i took off after about 6 months.

You need to use good Vinyl....7 year 3m or Avery. Use the cheap stuff and sure it will look bad after 6 months. Paint is better, but it's also forever. Your tastes may not be the same as your potential buyer down the road so you limit your market when you eventually want to sell (I don't keep my cars long). My car is garaged, so I'm sure tape will look great long after I'm done with it.. If I decide I don't like it any longer, or a buyer feels the same, just peel it off. No harm No foul. I've seen tape look good for many many years if maintained..$1500 for paint Vs. $150 for tape that can be taken back to stock in 30 minutes is a no-brainer..

Exactly - but try to find the correct Guardsman blue metallic in vinyl decal form for the over-the-top stripe(s). I've been unable to so far, b/c 3M doesn't make that shade of blue (Inconsiderate Bastards!). Avery does, but so far the only people I can find who use Avery are the side stripes guys.

Let me know if you run across anyone selling the LeMans stripe kits in Avery vinyls.

Exactly. You can change to different stripes if you feel like it in 6 months
