thinking about stripes on my car
#5
My GT500 is white with blue stripes and I like it a lot. You can do what you want but I would consider some sort of unique striping. When I see a GT or V6 striped like a GT500 I always think the person is just a wanna be. I saw one used GT on a dealer lot and the guy had actually added the GT500 faux gas cap and the snake emblems in place of the GT emblems and a snake in the grill. I just laughed to myself.

I'm of the group that thinks Mustangs in general look good with stripes... and that white looks significantly better with them. Mine already had black, but if I had to pick over again, black would be it. Matches the trim.

I'm of the same mindset with my white vert. It just seems so naked without any stripes at all, like a blank canvas. Ever since I saw Keirankelly's Guardsman Blue shelby stripes on his white coupe, I knew then what I must do. (do a search on his posts on here, you'll see his car).
Problem is, getting them painted (the "right way") is expensive (over $1000 up to $2500), but I've yet to find a decal that is of the right shade of blue (Decal set can be less than $250). 3M seems to make the decals for the over the top stripes, but I've sent away for samples, and none match Guardsman blue. Avery vinyl has one color that I think is close ("Electric Blue") but I haven't yet found an over-the-top stripe vendor who uses them yet, only side stripe guys.
I've written to Shelby America and their decal stripe vendor & color are a "Closely guarded secret". I saw a white 2009 GT500 at a show recently and its stripes were PERFECT, but the owner knew nothing about them other than they came with the car. I need to take my sample charts with me to some more shows until I see just the "right" shade of blue again, and then try to match that.
As far as I am concerned, Grabber Blue is way-hayyaaay too light for stripes on white and is a 2010+ product with no heritage (in terms of stripes on white, I am aware of its heritage otherwise). Grabber blue with white stripes is pure awesomeness however....
Send me a PM if you want and I can share what I've found out so far.

Understood, but the 2009 GT500 I saw recently at a show had decal stripes and it still looked bad-azz. For those of us with limited funds, it's hard to ignore also getting a CAI + tune and maybe an axle-back in addition to decal stripes for the same price as just painted stripes alone.

It's worth it, IMO. I've seen plenty of stripes up close and the ones painted on ALWAYS looked best!
Painted stripes are so much easier to maintain, too.
