Is There a Mustang "Wave"?
When I owned my '72 'vette, I learned it was an expectation that you wave 'hello' to other 'vettes on the road. Harley riders do it, as do Jeep drivers.
So when I see another Mustang on the road I usually give a wave, or at least two fingers up off the steering wheel. But doesn't seem like anyone else cares. I rarely get a salutation returned. And then just yesterday some punk 20-something in a 05-09 Pony Package V6 not only didn't wave back but had an annoyed look on his face instead.
So what's your experience? The new-gen 5.0 ('11 and '12) are the only Mustangs I've ever owned. Should I just mind my own business and keep both hands on the wheel from now on?
Are there just so many Mustang owners that the comraderie has been watered down with to many a$$hats? As it stands, I plan to restrict my waves to 2010+ and up GTs from now on.
PS - I did a Search & found a few posts on this topic but did not see one thread devoted to this topic, so I figured I'd start one.

I don't think so. There are too many Mustangs out there to bother trying to wave, IMO.
I used to wave at other 370Z owners when I had mine, but even with that car half of the time there was no response, or I just got a dumb look.

Im 50/50 on this one.
When I had my 93--I'd give the two-finger wave to other modded foxes, getting a response back MOST of the time.
In my SVT Focus--waved at other SVT's, always got one back (but that was a much smaller community)
In my 09--only waved at modded GTs, new or old.
Its not that i dont like people who dont mod their cars--its just that the Mustang is often bought by people who have never and will never be interested in community that exists around the car. BUT alot of owners who have work done are. Just my opinion!

Obviously Mustangs are pretty rare in the UK, so a toot/wave/thumbs up is the norm
I'll acknowledge any American pony car over here, classic or modern......there's a black '09 Challenger around here, and I'll always wave at the driver.
Even Harley's get in on the act. I was sat at a set of red lights a few months back. Looked in the rear view mirror and noticed 3 Harley's behind me. Gave the loud pedal a prod and got a twist of throttle from the Harleys in response. So I gave it a proper red-line rev..........and the bikes did the same
As the lights went green we all drove of sensibly and I gave them a thumbs up. Made my day that two very different types of Americana can be appreciated by both owners

I have been met with many different responses through the years on this topic. The way I play it now is I let them wave first, if they do I'm in. Too often I've initiated and been met with the "weirdo" look. The situation is the car appeals to people but there are differing levels of involvement. The ones that are passionate are generally the wavers. The people who just buy the car because they like it generally are the ones that give you the "weirdo" look when you wave. So my remedy is to wait on them to initiate.
..
I have found a lot of the young kids do not return waves. The older the driver, the more likely to get a return greeting. I had a Boss 302 (the original one) behind me on a Sunday afternoon. He pulled up beside me and gave me a thumbs up just as I did one to him. I found, when I had my '97 Cobra there were more waves, especially from the SVT drivers. Possibly a dying art form, since most young drivers have a cell phone and are too busy texting to see you wave

I usually wave at someone in a classic Mustang and usually receive the same in mine, but modern Mustangs are far too common to expect the same, imo. If I waved at every Mustang I saw in a typical day, I'd probably look like a lunatic.
I'm sure this was mentioned above, it doesn't really work with Mustangs because there are lot of non-car people that own them, unlike more specialized cars like vettes. I stick to waving to fellow Cobras and modded GTs and GT500s, really the specialty cars.
