Suspension rattle after lowering over bad "washboard" roads

Has anyone else experienced a dull metallic rattling / clunking over bad roads after lowering.

Everything is good and quiet over speed bumps, man hole covers, pot holes etc, but not rough uneven roads with lots of little bumps. It has a similar sound to a loose end link, but I've triple checked the torque on every single bolt on the suspension.

I have steeda sport springs and I'm wondering if the coils closer/ tighter wound coil are contacting and causing the noise.

Anyone else experience this?

I know you've said you checked the end links. But often times it's actually the bushings between the rear sway bar and the links - the two metal rods bolted to the chassis. Go beneath the rear of your car, and try punching the rear sway bar - with the soft part of your fist.. If you hear the clunking, it's those link bushings. If you don't hear the clunking you can rule those out and move on to another diagnosis.

I should have specified, the noise is coming from the front suspension. The rear is completely quiet.

What other suspension components do you have up front?

Coils closer/ tighter wound coil are contacting and causing the noise
The coils contacting each other is by design - just like the factory spring
That will not cause any noise.

A loose end link on the swaybar is the most common place for a noise ... but you checked that ... now we have to look towards the mounts.

Here is the complete suspension.

Eibach Pro Dampers | Steeda Sport Springs | Ground Control CC Plates | BMR Panhard Bar | BMR LCA's | Steeda Lowered UCA | Steeda Front and Rear Swaybar's | Steeda Adjustable Front Endlinks

I am trying out a set of the Steeda billet front sway bar mounts that a friend gave me for free because he bought them and never put them on before trading in his car. I torqued them to the factory 52 ft-lbs. I only noticed it on a really bad road that I don't normally drive, and never took when I had the with the provided swaybar brackets on the car. Haven't decided if I like the billet ones or not since it induced a bit more understeer than I would like.

Could this just be an increase in NVR from the billet mounts? Its a quick change and may just swap them back out this weekend and go back to the road I was on.

I drove the car to work this morning and took it a road that it bad, and I swear I can feel it in the floor boards. It is starting to make me think it may be the swaybar brackets.

Did you grease the mounts?

It could still be the upper strut mount too. Your best bet may be to take it to a shop ... very hard to know exactly what is going on ... but check the grease on the mounts.

I did grease it, but will check again. I replaced the upper strut mount, so not sure how it could be the mount. Its quiet over speed bumps, man hole covers even if i take them faster than I should. Its bad on the roads that look like the image I attached when there is a constant side to side suspension load.

TJ,

The noise I was hearing was definitely spring chatter. I have the progressive rate sport springs with the tighter coils at the bottoms, and on both sides there were spots on the springs that had worn straight through the paint to the bare metal. I had a second set of the rubber spring isolator's that I placed in that area, and all noise stopped. I never noticed any contact with the stock springs since they are linear, and the

Keep us updated ... we have not had issues with springs making noise (no tickets in the computer). The springs wearing & the coating exposed is a common occurrence with springs.

It sounds like you are good to go!

Best Regards,
