I am looking for a in-expensive set of drag wheels for my brembo car. CCW, Bogarts, Race Stars all look nice, but more than I want to pony up for.

I do not mind running 17's front and back as I can use 17" M/T ET Streets.

I know I can use an 197 17" for the rear, but will any clear the front?

Why do you feel you need 17" drag wheels for the front?

Sure using skinnies on the front reduces weight and drag, but unless you are going for some record or dragging for a prize or money, the difference is going to be pretty minimal.
And if that was the case (wanting to make a prize winning drag car) getting the Brembo brake package probably wasn't the best choice.
Doubtful 17's will clear the Brembos

Just find a set of 18's that will clear or keep the 19's on and get a low rolling resistance (ie: high mileage) set of crap tires in a 245 series width.
You'll have a bit skinnier tire and as low as rolling resistance as you can. That may give you .05 sec. and .5 mph improvement.

 

Race Stars and other similar 4.5" drag wheels in 17" will clear the Brembos but they aren't cheap. I haven't seen any "budget" alternatives out there.

Driver 72, It may be just the look he's after. These cars do look hot in big 'n littles in my opinion.

If you don't think the 17 x 4.5 light weight wheels and tires will make much difference, it's hardly worth suggesting a harder tire with 10mm less section than the Brembos, probably not measureable.

 

Ck out billet specialties street lite 17in.

 

Nice looking wheel and a decent price. Narrowest available is a 7" though. Probably could fit a 215/55 on that. Wonder what the weight would be...

I haven't warmed up to the look of 17's in the front and 15's in the back yet.

There are a few nice 17" drag wheels out there for the back, but all the drag radials available for 17s I've found seem too short for these cars. We need something like a 295/45/17.

 

As you're on a budget, I'd suggest just buying a cheap pair of 17's off an earlier S197 and just keep your stock 19's up front. You'll likely end up with a shorter height drag radial that will look a bit odd, but it'll work and who cares anyway when you're racing? Plus, the shorter diameter will effectively increase your gearing for more acceleration anyway and the extra rollout from the taller front tires will help your ET, as well.

 

17" barrels will not clear the caliper, let alone the spoke clearance considerations.

 

M&H makes a 275/50/17 Drag radial 28" tall $234.00 ea.

 

Looks like the best deal I have found is Race Stars 17x4.5 and 17x9.5 for $959 on ebay..

wouldn't tires like that be bad in terms of getting grip and ultimately giving the car lower ET's and speeds? i've never drag raced, but i just don't get the logic behind it, would love info though

 

This is in regards to the front setup. Ideal (that I am aware of) is light weight and low rolling resistance. Thus the term "skinnies" in the front came about?

 

I"m sure the 17" barrels would fit the rear. Even a 16" would...I imagine.

This was another option...if the 15's actually clear the rear. It would give me more options for tires .

 

Rears will be fine.

 

I think Beefcake has shown that 15" wheels (I wanna say Racestars?) will fit the rear just fine. He has a non-brembo car, but IIRC the rear brakes are identical (despite Ford's literature).

 

15's in the rear will require a swaybar relocation kit.
