Well, yeah, they can. 1/4 mile isn't everything. You can't autocross or road race very well with an auto, especially when there isn't a sport mode to keep it in gear, or paddle shifters. I'm sure Ford will address this soon.
We need more info. But ****, that auto is fast. Who would have thought a 12 second Mustang with a auto could come out of Detroit and let
alone Ford? These are the good old days. Good job Ford Motor Company. I love you.

I am the guy that ran the Mustang last night, this is what drag racing is all about.I was in elimination till the finals (and won) everyone knew we were going to run after eliminations so we had a preety good size crowed what a blast. The guys from Vendicated were very cool.I cant wait to run Billy again. PS.My chubby Camaro ran a best of 12.79 @ 111 last night with Long tubes only no tune.

Although I didn't know until now how well the auto performs against the manual, I knew how well it performed according to my butt-o-meter and it told me it was a very strong performer. I've also seen the Mustang automatic vs Camaro automatic drag race video clips on Youtube and the Mustang just shuts the Camaro automatic down (yeah, I know the Camaro automatic only has 400HP vs the manual's 425). Still ...
With the new 6-speed automatic, a guy with a manual tranny had better be good and quick because this new 6-speed auto ain't no slouch. Kudo's Ford!

nice runs btw, get a tune should wake up it
Lol...I took my car to Sac Raceway. Once. My best was 15.8 @ 89.
although it had 96k miles on it and I didn't realize it had a slight misfire. It was a good time though, and even though I was the 2nd slowest vehicle there (the only thing slower than me was a fricken Dodge 3500 Ram Quad Cab Dually with the Cummins diesel and he was running 16.0!!) no one was bashing me for bringing my V6 Auto out. It was pretty fun and there were some fast rides out there!

Those quarter mile speeds seem a little high. Especially the 14:41 car. His sixty was real slow, which could have been wheel spin, and so the 14:41 could have been a low 14s pass, and the MPH is a little closer to what it should have been.
Not unusual for timers to be off, the distances have to be perfect for the times/speeds to be right. You'll even find variations between lanes at the same track. If guys tell me that their car always 60s better at a certain track, then you can figure it's a little short in the 60.
I don't know what system that track uses, but it's not Compulink, so I'm not sure if the increments are the same as what we usually see, but they seem to be.
Oh.....you'll see boosted cars with big MPHs compared to time because of boost coming on, or drag radial cars that are set soft at the hit, but thse are NA cars, at least the Mustang.

Kaler was saying that someone said (wow, almost linked to Kevin Bacon!) that the traps are 3-4 mph higher at this track compared to Infineon in the same car, so to take it with a grain of salt. HOWEVER, I'd say we should just wait for more times from different tracks. I have a hard time believing a 115 MPH trap, but I am no expert on the subject so I could easily be wrong!
