This is my current stereo. I have a 7" pioneer avh unit, that I want to install. I know that I can buy a kit for $300 - $400. My question is, can I not just remove the factory stereo, measure & cutout the front bezel & make this work? Has anyone tried this?

 

No, you cannot put a head unit in the top. there is not enough depth.

The stock radio unit is behind the ***** and controls, and the top is just a screen.

 

Any suggestions?

 

Install it in a different location, trunk, glovebox, center console perhaps?

Otherwise it looks like you are stuck buying an aftermarket that relocates the A/C controls.

 

Yep. Search. There is a "kit" that can be bought that replaces the front radio benzel (or you buy one from a navagation equipped Mustang) that installs the radio lower, and the AC controls above, allowing a radio that has "depth" to have it's face at the bottom, and AC controls above.
