Steeda Tri-Ax Shifter

Last week I finally made it back to Steeda in Pompano Beach to get the Tri-Ax Shifter and Shifter bracket installed. What a difference!!! Compared to the OE Shifter, I now feel that you have complete control over the shifts, versus looking for the gear. The shifts are more precise and exact, and the overall feel is firmer. I love the reverse lockout, which makes it almost impossible to accidentally shift into reverse. Steeda's claim to never miss third gear again is absolutely true. This is truly a must have mod!!!! Thanks to Gus and his team for (once again) providing an outstanding and unsurpassed service experience. You guys are absolutely THE best!!!

I've used many shifters and the Steeda Tri-Ax has always been my favorite over the years.

What's the advantage of the new bracket?

The steeda shifter and barton bracket is a very top notch combo. I got tired of waiting on the MGW and truth be told there is only so much you can do with a shifter and i couldn't be happier.

I LOVE my Tri-Ax. The factory shifter was quite good, but the Steeda Tri-Ax plus the custom shift **** from Grabber Pony makes shifting a sensual experience.

I'm running the Tri-Ax and the Boss 302 ****. It's a nice upgrade over stock.

Quick question for those running it; anyone ever notice the shifter get harder to use when the trans heats up? Trying to identify if it's a shifter or transmission issue. I may swap back to the stock shifter and see if I can replicate the issue.

I installed my tri ax a few days ago and noticed that. After driving an hour to the track when you would rock it side to side in neutral it wouldnt even return to the center. It felt like it had gum on the other end. I thought maybe it needed to break in a little, and have noticed since that it moves very free and easy. But I haven't driven it an extended period like that to get it really hot again.

It added a TON of inconsistent noise to the cabin of my car. When I bought my car it was the quietest car I had ever ridden in, now with the trans whine, the transmission noise through the shifter (kinda sounds like a jet engine) and the mufflers its verging on old crappy mustang comfort. I haven't ordered the shifter bracket as I read that adds even more noise.

The jet engine whooshy noise from the trans is worse when I turn, maybe because the shifter is moving in relation to the body?

That's very similar to what I've noticed. I will remove it and see if anything changes. I'll start a separate thread on this as well.

I've had mine for about 8 months and love it. Just a couple of things you could check, does the end have sufficient grease and is the boot properly seated? I know mine was a ***** to get on.

Yeah the boot is really tough, I hear.

I called Steeda today and they said there is a "couple week break in period" of the derlin ball. He said if the stiffness when hot doesnt go away to call back. I will keep an eye on it.

Subscibed to hear about what is happening with the shifter sticking. I haven't had that problem with it. My only thing is noise which as i stated in another thread i believe to be the synchros because its frequency/pitch increases when i downshift before i let the clutch out. Also i believe the noise coming in first and second is due to the lockout tab riding against the lockout. How many people had a gap between the lockout and the tab when they installed?

I believe mine is one of the earlier builds, so things may have changed since then. I will pull it on Mon or Tues and see if things change. If so, I'll be contacting Gus.

I've had mine since they first hit the streets and never had a problem with it.

I couldn't be happier with mine. The Barton bracket does, however, add even more to the shifter. I don't know how much the bracket would do without the shifter (since I had the shifter first), but each is a great item on its own.
