Steeda CAI and Evolution Tune Installed

Have had my Steeda and Evolution Performance Custom Tune installed for about a week now.

Before I get a thousand questions I do not know what the HP numbers are before or after, I do not have access to a dyno nor do I really have the time to find one.

I can tell you this much better throttle response and power at low RPM and the Rev limiter has been raised a few RPM. The car definitely feels faster to me.

That sure is one nice looking engine compartment.

Looks like that CAI does not use the factory intake tube from behind the grill, correct?

Where does it get the air from -- under the hood I guess?

Yes it uses the Factory cold air inlet, Steeda claims to be the only one that does this.

I will be posting an install pictoral in the next week or and will show you guys how it meets up with the factory inlet.

Plus before and after #'s of course

OP, did you have trouble getting the weather stripping to stay down on the edges of the corners?

aha, thanks, can't see it in the pictures

The Roush unit that I have on my 2010 also uses the factory inlet . . . but I have read it doesn't really fit into the inlet very well, like it leaves a gap . . . I can't say myself because I didn't install it, it was already on the car and you can't really see down there very well.

When you close the hood, where does the air come from? I mean, that big ol' honkin' air filter and wide open intake tube are nice but if that silver box that it all sits in doesn't let a similar volume of air in, is it really going to make a difference? Just curious. I like the Steeda stuff up top vice a lot of the puddle sucking versions but wonder how much volume it can really pull in there.

there is a factory inlet at the bottom of the tray (below the cone) that pulls from the high pressure zone behind the grill.

also it pulls from the right front corner area behind the head light assembly

that's what I was wondering about too -- I guess you can't see it in the pictures, but there is a duct that leads down behind the grill and mates up to the factory opening at the end of the grill area

With a tune you are looking at 5-10 hp over stock box. The question is the price of the CAI really worth it? Yes it looks great but you really do not gain much for the price. Look at the Bama tune were they did a tune with stock air box and then with C&L. They only gained 6hp.

Looks good man.

The ruber surround sticks very well- there's like a thin metal strip in the base to secure it's shape- but to insure it stuck I was able to just crimp mine to the housing with a set of pillars. It's also fits perfect to the top of the hood without pushing upwards on it, something I heard C&L's did??

The install (in the 2010 at least) is pretty basic- I'd imagine it'll to be about the same in the 11.

.

Don't really care about the numbers.
I wanted one so I bought it.
It flows a considerable amount of more air into the engine than the stock box does and make a really good sound doing it.

If you notice in the picture, the rubber seal around the top of the CAI fits tight against the cut out for the top of the stock air box in the hood liner.

Thinking I would have to paint the sheild flat black or something, not really digging the silver. Maybe a heat resistang paint would make a difference on heat also?????????

More power down low and throttle response are probably results of the tune.... but if the CAI looks good, sounds good, makes at least SOME difference in performance...more than enough for some to justify buying one for some folks.

I have to say that I love the looks of the blue filter with the Race Red paint.
