Squeal on start up

Ok hopefully nothing, but twice now when I have started up my new GT there is a squealing from the engine. Other times nothing. Anyone else had this issue? Only 46 miles on it so far....

Squealing is usually from a belt.

I had that problem pretty early with mine and it turned out to be a faulty water pump. I think that's a very fairly common issue with a TSB out maybe?

Jeez...not what you want to hear with only 46 miles on the car!!! Besides driving it home from the dealer the only place I drove it was to get the GT500 mufflers put on yesterday....both times it did it was just starting it up in the garage. ...

I've never heard a squeal from my 14 GT but I've got some type of belt or pulley noise that sounds like it's coming from the passenger side of the engine. It has done it from the day I bought it. It sounds like it's a little louder now.

Do you have any other unusual sounds from the engine as it idles?

I work at a dealer ship (Not Ford) i have found that,
Extreme cold can cause a belt to make noise at start up!
I would guess that is what it is, not a water pump at 46 mi.
If it goes away with a warm up in weather I would not worry, if it keeps getting more consistent bring it into the dealer!

Well with 46 miles on it, you shouldn't be hearing the belt squealing either. If it doesn't subside by mile 100, take it into the dealership. Also, if possible have someone start the car while you're looking and listening under the hood to see if you can pinpoint it yourself.

Try and keep a notepad and log some details each time you start your car and it does or doesn't make noise.

Time, temperature, is the car at operating temperature or has it been sitting and is cold, how long of duration does it squeal? This stuff will help the dealer narrow it down if they can't replicate it (most likely they won't unless it sits there overnight). But definitely get in touch with your dealer, it's not normal.

I have a V6 with 5700 miles and this afternoon it started squealing after I started it, so I'll be paying closer attention to it and if it keeps up I'll take it in.

Good luck!

I think I heard some noise ( not a squeal though)from that area as well one time when I started it up and had the hood open...it seemed to come and go but was definitely from the passenger front side of engine....

Perhaps the tensioner has a bad bearing?

Hey JCStang,

Let me get this escalated to the customer service manager for your area. Please make an appointment with your dealer and PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number.

I'm not sure. I will have to check it out a little closer now that the weather is warming up. I've heard other people talk about it on the forums so I've not been real concerned about it yet. I tried to figure it out when I first got the car but I couldn't pinpoint where the noise was coming from.

I'll have the dealer look at it when I go in for a tire rotation which will be in the next 300 miles or so.
