Spun my tires today - I don't know why ?
I have had my GT for about 4 months now. I have taken a lot of opportunities to stomp on the accelerator. I've even floored it a couple of times. But today something strange happened.
I was leaving the grocery store. Came out of the parking lot and onto the street. Punched it. Not floored, but maybe halfway, like I had done dozens of times before. But today, my tires broke loose and squealed as I sped away and headed down the road. I had to let off the gas to make it stop. I check and my Advanced Traction Control was ON.
My questions is, has this ever happened to you? With the Advanced Traction on? I don't get it. I was actually a rather exciting episode, reminded me of my old 327 SS 64 Impala 4 speed from high school days. Kind of a good feeling really, but I'm confused as to why it happened. The only thing I can figure is that the tires were slightly wet. The store had their sprinklers on and I drove through a bit (a very small amount) of water before i got to the exit. Is it possible that could have been the cause? If not, I'm wondering if there is something wrong with my Traction Control system.
Thanks for any replies or input.

It is a Mustang....it just had to show off a bit since you weren't....lol
Yep, the wet tires will do just that. Traction Control is not the saving grace for traction....still takes driver control.

As far as my '10 GT goes, I can tell you that ATC isn't perfect. Best example - local car wash where the ground is coated with wax wash off residue from the drying/polish area. It gets on your sneakers as well as your car's sneakers! Feet slipping on pedals and tires slipping on wet waxy pavement always makes for a fun exit from that area, even with ATC on.

ford20 --- It wasn't a "chirp." It was a loooooonnnnngggg SQUEEEEEALLLING.
It had a great sound to it though.
Ok. I guess it was the small amount of water. But I guess once they get broken free, they just keep squealing as long as you're pressing on the gas. I may have to do that again some time. Soon. I'll be on the lookout for sprinklers from now on.
Hey, thanks for all the input. I'm glad there's a place like this with drivers with more experience that know the ropes on these cars.

First, you're correct. Secondly, I will echo those saying that TC isn't always perfect, especially with wet shoes. Third, I always smile when I see your signature. It's sad, and would be funnier were it not so true--and so expensive to people like myself who actually work for a living.

It is much more apt to happen when turning since both rear tires are trying to turn at same rate an they cannot in a mustang while turning. Its a blast but be careful on ramps!
