Questions about 2013 GT

While I am waiting for my 2013 GT to come, I have a few questions I hope some may have the answers to;

1. GT500 Axle backs - I was told these are louder than the stock GTs but not too loud. Anyone have the price for a set and Ford PN?

2. Does the 2013 GT 5.0 come with factory headers and if so what are they made of?

3. Non-track pack cars, what oil does it use? I assume 8 quarts?

4. Does the GT Prem with the standard Shaker audio have a USB port like the 2010's?

Thanks.

Yup, pretty sure that the Premium has the USB port in the center console. I sat in a 2013 Premium convertible at the dealer last weekend. The USB was the first thing I looked for. It was there. This was a non-Electronics/Navigation car with the smaller display screen. I'll let you know for sure in a couple weeks when mine gets delivered.

Thanks Paulw. USB is very, very important to me too as all my songs are on my 8 gig flash drive. Good luck with yours. I hope to get mine end of Juky.

Hey Joe!

Just got mine and it sounds like what you're getting.

1 - IDK, I'm thinking about getting some too, I'd check out YouTube as much as possible to get a really good idea.

2 - I don't believe so, but I'll get a better look at the engine tomorrow and send you a PM about that.

3 - 5w-20 and I thinks it's 8qts too.

4 - Yup, right where Paulw said it was. It's in the center console next to the AUX input.

I don't have a part number for the gt500's but I know LRS has them for $309 shipped

All mustangs have headers, that's really just a slang term for the exhaust manifolds. Now as far as aftermarket headers, they are just that, aftermarket. Some of them are short tube design (aka shorties) and others have a full length design (aka long tubes or LT's). The purpose of these after market headers is to increase exhaust flow so these have larger diameter openings connected to the block as well as larger collectors. Similar to what a larger diameter exhaust pipe does for you. Allows higher exhaust flow rate.

I hope this answers half of your questions

I have them on my '11 GT. Louder than stock, but not obnoxious. No drone, either. Part # M5230MGTCA1, click here for pricing.

2. Does the 2013 GT 5.0 come with factory headers and if so what are they made of?

Yes, steel tubular headers (not cast iron log manifolds) come on the 5.0's from the factory.

3. Non-track pack cars, what oil does it use? I assume 8 quarts?

5W20, 8.5 quarts when you change the oil filter, and either full synthetic or synthetic blend is okay.

4. Does the GT Prem with the standard Shaker audio have a USB port like the 2010's?

All premium models come with Sync, which in turn comes with a USB port.

Thanks.

You're welcome - happy to help!

That is the difference between a FRPP part and a production part. The GT500 muffler has a different cost structure being a regular production part that was originally intended for the 2011/12 GT500.

I just installed the GT500's on my car... and I love them. A little more volume, and slightly different pitch than the OEM mufflers. These you can actually hear over the induction noise coming through the sound tube. And as everyone has already eluded to... NO DRONE.

I think the rest of the answers for the OP were covered by Brian.

Hey, everyone! Thank you all for all your great help! Excellent!! I am really glad to hear those axle backs are so cheap! All the other brands I have seen cost $400 and up. The Gt500's are a great deal. And I am glad they have no drone unlike the Roush axle backs I had on my 2010 GT.

Regarding the headers, I meant the non-cast iron headers as I read about them in Mustang 5.0 magazine a 16 page article on the design of the 5.0 for the 2011's and was not sure if Ford went back to the cast iron ones on the 2012 or 2013.

Waiting now for Jeff to sent me the DORA on mine. Thanks again.

Joe C

P.S. Just called Jeff to see if he can order and put on the GT500 axle backs when my car comes in before I pick it up!

If you get through gt500 a/b , I highly recommend having the resonators removed. There's still no drone and greatly improves the sound quality of the exhaust.

The cast iron manifolds only come on the F150 with the 5.0. There is a slight boost in low end torque, and they cost less than the tubular "headers" on the mustang. Both of which are important for a truck that Ford sells a half-million a year.
If you even slightly handy with hand tools the GT500 mufflers can be installed easily in your driveway in less than a 1/2 hour... mine took me 15 minutes to swap... then again I have helped on the install of about 5-6 of these by now.

I was not aware the car had resonators. I'll have to check to see if I can find an example of it on Youtube.

When I was younger I used to do all this kind of stuff. But my lower back bothers me now and I have seen some factory bolts so tight that I couldn't break them lose. I would have to do it on ramps on my driveway. So I'll gladly pay a few dollars to a dealer and have them do it.
