I finally got around to removing the second plug (inside the engine compartment). It's not entirely obvious but you have to pop the connection off the back side of that diaphragm (towards the firewall)...just give it a twist and a tug and it will pop loose. In there you'll see the white foam plug.

So... I like it a lot...but it's pretty shrill sounding. With both plugs out, there is a bit more high frequency noise than I think would be ideal...but it still sounds pretty cool.

I'll try putting the grey firewall one back in and leaving the white engine bay one out to compare.

You can also cut the foam plug in half to alter how much sound gets through.

No. There's not a hole in the firewall for it, so it never existed. the s197 chassis was the first with it, as far as I can recall.

I'm still looking for a take-off sound tube setup.

A couple of different people offered to send me theirs when they took it off but never heard from anyone since.

I was going to take it out but with the windows rolled up, that cabin is really quiet even with the sound tube.

Anyone remove this thing completely with a CAI? Installing my JLT tomorrow and thinking of removing the whole thing. I don't think I even hear it w/my Roush axel backs anymore.

Lots have removed them although none have taken me up on my offer to take it off their hands, how about you?

Joe Heck Racing has a kit to plug off the holes.

I saw the link for JHR, but it didn't work. Yeah, if I decide to completely remove it you got it.

JHR is temporarily only selling through dealers so that's why the link doesn't work.

If you go to the JHR home page it has a list of dealers that can sell you the parts, www.hecticparts.com

Shoot me a PM if you take the sound tube off and we can work out the details for me to get it from you.

Unfortunately, none of the dealers list that as a part so were SOL.

I'll do some testing this weekend with and without it. I'll post back my results.

Some people just give up to easily...

All you need to do is call one of them and tell them what you want from JHR.

Either that or you just make your own, there's not much to it, a body plug and a cap.

Drove a bit today without the sound tube after I installed my CAI. I can't really tell the difference without it. But it's hard to tell with the new sound of the cai paired with the Roush's. Car will be at the dealer for the next few days getting re-striped, I'll test next weekend with the sound tube on and post back.
