Sound Deaden Styrofoam ??

I was looking around my V-6 engine and noticed this piece of styrofoam on the drivers side of the engine. Maybe of the fuel line. Do you all think this is part of the sound deaden things Ford did on the 2011's to make them quieter? The styrofoam isn't sloted to slide out, so i'll have to break it to remove it. Anyone else with a 2011 V-6 take a look to see if you have the styrofoam on your engine. Here are a couple pictures.[IMG][/IMG]

Hmm, I highly doubt the removal of that will have any implication on how loud ur engine gets. Odds are it's there for some sort of reason... It probably limits rattling of some kind, or makes sure wires don't come in contact with part of the engine that heats up, idk could be anything.

That is definitely NOT sound deadening foam. Looks like a heat shield. I'd keep it.

The fact that it is colored and formed to the environment ... rather than being just plain "white" with the obvious purpose of transport protection ... make me think that it is supposed to stay there rather than the dealership forgot to remove it durring prep.

It is on top of the fuel rail. Probably is sound deadening, to keep the noise down that the injectors make.

Don't remove it.

Why would you want to anyway?

Thanks everyone. I'll leave it on for now, i was just afraid it would melt or something LOL!!! It is the more higher quality kind of styrofoam, more flexible than the average type.

I'd say it's for keeping engine heat out of the fuel. Probably want to stay away from that with a pressure washer.

After viewing several pictures of the 2011 V-6 engine, the gray styrofoam is on all of them. So i'll leave it on. I think its for sound deaden.

Why in the world would Ford put something on there that may melt?? All those conditions are tested for. It looks to me like it is meant to be there. I wouldn't remove it.

Why would people doubt that stuff under the hood attached to the car is supposed to be there?

David, did you take the engine cover off?

Your pic:

and one from the Autoblog review:

Considering that foam is under the engine cover, yeah, I'd say leave it alone.

I'll order a engine cover and strut tower brace when they hit the market. I checked with my dealer today, they can't order these parts yet but maybe soon.

The strut tower brace looks identical to the 2010 GT brace.

I think you guys are right. Looks just like a 2010 G.T. strut tower brace.
