Sometimes you experiment, but go back...

I was one of those who tried the sound tube modification on my V6. Bought one from a GT owner who removed it. Drilled the hole in the silencer box to install a PVC fitting for this tube. Sounded alright for about the first week, then realized it was going to have to come off as soon as possible; the novelty factor wore off.

I've since removed it, and installed a CAI setup. Next is the exhaust, then tuner. I've waitied up to this point to do these modifications, as I'm close to reaching the end of my factory warranty.

Learn from my experience. Avoid the "cool" factor. They usually don't last long.

Why did you remove it though? Too loud? Annoying?

I still have my sound tube on, but I have never once heard anything from it. Guess it could be because I have never had a stock exhaust.

I know what you are saying, it's like dating a mod, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I put GT500 axle backs on when I got the car and now that it has just over 5k on it they seem to have gotten louder. Maybe it's perception but I find myself driving conservatively so as not to be too loud. It sounds like I'm going 100 and I'm only doing 40! Lol. Oh crap, does this mean I'm old!?

not really, and yes

I only had one foam piece removed, but even if it were re-installed, it still would have been annoying.

Didnt like my side scoops so off they came. Love the tone of my Borla s-types, but theyre loud and I want side exhaust so I will switch them for touring. Maybe Im just old, but I like to creep a little. Researched both pretty well but theyre just not working for me. Trying some pedals next. We'll see.

I plan to go with the Borla touring as well. Just waiting on a good price, used or new.

All in some fun engineering. While I don't have the expensive shops and tooling that the manufacturers have, it won't stop me from trying an idea of my own.

There's always a better mouse trap to be made.....

I had the side and rear window louvers got tired of them. Man I never relized how much noise those things produced. Much better with out them.

This is one of the main reasons I subscribe to these forums; learn what works, and what doesn't.

And I don't need another sound tube; already have 2 freebies. One is working out perfect in replacing a bad pvc pipe between the pool pump and chlorinator.
