You CAN get very good MF stuff. The problem is "microfiber" is so over-used and describes anything with a specific thread density. But seriously, you could have a burlap microfiber but I'm not sure you'd want to polish your car with it. Cotton is, very simply, one thing and one thing only: 100% natural.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a firm believer in synthetics for a lot of things. But I am very reluctant to use something just because it has the "MF" label. Jokerstars -- if you get some good MF products, you'll be fine.

I think another trick to MF is to only buy the very soft and more expensive MF, AND know how to use them. The ones that I bought were just of average quality. I did get a better quality one that I do use on my bike occasionally, and so far it's been OK (but no better than cotton, it just hasn't caused any damage). If you get MF, like I said get the good ones, WASH them with, but DO NOT PLACE IN DRYER. Just let them air dry. (Heat from drying them can damage the fibers in MF). If you do that you'll probably be OK, but I just find that they don't do any better job than cotton but are more hassle.

Claybar should be first thing you do. Wait till you see how much rust is on the paint from the trip over.

 

I use Pinnacle Crystal Mist Carnauba Detail Spray, works great for me.

 

I use Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0. Easy to apply, easy to remove. Gives a great shine and lasts several months. I prefer synthetic sealants to carnauba wax because they offer superior protection and last longer. Some people prefer the shine of carnauba. Either way you can't go wrong.

I always put down 5 coats of Zaino Z5 with Z2 in between, then Zaino CS the whole thing.

 

Wax in early morning or late afternoon, whatever is cooler; and never in direct sunlight.

 

Zaino polishes can be used on a hot day in direct sunlight.

 

Anyone who gets anything other than car wash at a local auto parts store is in for a rude awakening.

If you do decide to go MF, don't buy the bulk bags unless you're using them for anything OTHER than removing polish/sealant/wax. Not good for it at all. I use the collection of the Cobra MF towels for wax removal, nothing else.

Also, no matter what, sunlight is the best judge of your work, but the worst to actually work in. Pull it in the garage and keep the paint cooler and you'll have more time to work on the car. Invest in a $30 light gun from Autogeek if you're really worried and check your work that way.

I typically buy my stuff from Autogeek, Detailers Domain, Poorboy's website, or the local paint supply shop, since they have Meg's #105 and #205 in stock for a reasonable price. If you're going to buy anything at an Autozone, go with Gold Class only. There's nothing else really IMO that is worth your money. Even still, GC is at the "bottom" of the detailing world in terms of product. NXT is alright (check the post earlier on what it really is) but I'd go with a higher quality sealant if it were me.

It was supposed to be released to retail a couple months ago, has anyone heard any news about this? This looks like it could protect pretty much every surface in and around the car.

 

I'd wait until an automotive specific product is developed before I'd buy a generic spray-on coating.
