Should I get my new Mustang immediately washed and waxed?
I can second autopia, also just wanted to throw this out there on this thread.
My car was clayed this morning along with polish, wax etc... and my friend who was doing the job said it was the cleanest paint he had ever seen from the factory.
Compared to a brand new lexus and camaro SS he has also owned he said the whole car had as much dirt/dust whatever as much as one panel on of of the other cars mentioned above.
In other words ford is taking very good care of delivering these cars, at least in my case.
I was very suprised to hear that it was that much cleaner than a camaro ss and even a lexus..

The clay bar usually lasts for about 3 sessions, or you can do your car about 3 times. I used the California yellow clay and does a very good job. Gotta use a lot of spay detailler wax though.
On the note of keeping a car clean, has anyone had any experience with the clear bra's they are using? I really didn't know anything about it until recently and seems like a decent idea but not foolproof. I am not sold on anything that has to be stuck to the car but I would like to see something keep the front of the car not so chiped or damaged by daily driving. Without a regular bra. If there isn't too great of a way to do this then I'll live, but I won't be paying for a ton of clearcoat to be put on the front clip of my vehicle either.

Also, to comment on the clay bar life, it depends on the car and condition of the paint. I usually cycle them from paint -> wheels -> trash as I replace them.
I looked into a clear bra but decided against it. It seemed like 50% of the people liked them and 50% said they wouldn't do it again. I think it's a crap shoot. If it gives you peace of mind go for it.
Anyone care to comment on Ford paint? I've never seen a major problem with it, but I could be wrong.
If the rock is big enough it will go right through the clear bra. My biggest concerns were a) the product eventually yellowing and b) Return on Investment.
I'm thinking of towing my car home instead of driving it. Might look weird with plastic on the wheels and interior with rail rust all over it... lol
Highschool kids with dirty towels + minimum wage = bad combo!

I would ask them to not do any prep other than whatever inspection is required. No washing, no taking off shipping materials.
Good posts! All I really know about detailing is what I have picked up along the way. Just remember my Dad and I getting out the turtle wax after a good hand wash of our Escort GT. Yeah, I said it, Escort...GT, an '89. Still wish I knew more about detailing though. Just found out about claybar this year.
