SelectShift retro-fit for '11 & '12?

Does anyone have any idea if the SelectShift will be offered as a parts kit/tune to be retrofitable onto ’11 and ’12 GTs? I’d buy this in a heartbeat if it were available, either through Ford or aftermarket.

I doubt it but that would be cool. I had select shift in my 2010 Fusion Sport and it was fun. Not like driving manual at all, but helped for "spirited" driving.

Heck, it's not even actually out in the 2013 yet, how could anyone know if there would be any retrofit available???

I imagine it could be done but at the least would require a new shifter and a wiring harness and a new pcm tune.

Does anyone know if theres even going to be a new gate for the M mode? Or are they gonna use one of those godforsaken +/- buttons on the side of the shifter?

If its just a button, then I'd rather not have it at all.

My mom had a button on her Saturn, it was terrible and didn't feel right. I have a gate on my 05' Mazda 6 and driven many other cars with gates. Its a lot more engaging!

They've already said it's going to be just like the shifter in the F150, with plus and minus buttons on the side. All you will have to do is while you have your hand on the shifter, reach down with your thumb and push the buttons.

The shifter will look a lot like this one I'm sure, shift plus and minus button in red circle.

Had that in the '12 Expl. Ltd. that I drove for 700 miles. Nice option but a bit hard to get used to since I was used to actually manually shifting so many autos in both old and new. Also, I found the response from my input to the actual shift to be a bit slower than expected. With enough practice/use, I am sure it will work good.....but I still like the manual 6 speed.

I'm sure the select shifting will be tighter in the Mustang than what it is in a truck.

I could just never get used to a button like that. Paddle shifters in a GTI DCT were awesome. Shift gate on my Mazda 6 is pretty good plus I've used it on many other cars. The button is just lazy.

I dunno it's just my opinion. The button just never felt right to me

At least one good thing about the buttons are that it would be easy to add Paddle shifters to the steering wheel. Just need to tap into the wires of the buttons. Should be a great mod for owners of the 2013.

What paddles would you hook up?

The only aftermarket paddle shifter I've ever seen won't fit any late model steering column.

Here is something I find weird: recently I sat in a 2012 Ford Taurus at my dealers; it was a Limited version, NOT a SHO. It had paddle shifters on the steering wheel? WTH - if they put them on a Taurus family-sedan why not on their new Mustang - LOL!

According to Autoblog the SelectShift will use paddle shifters.

Think you misread the article, here is a quote...

and those buyers who opt for the automatic can now select their own gears through a new rocker-switch on the shifter (we still want paddles, guys)
Rocker switch on the shifter just like the F150 pictures I posted.

Rocker switch is a fail IMHO. I don't think that paddle shifter would be right in aMustang either. A gated shifter would be best

Giving this thread a bump -

Has anyone managed to add SelectShift capability to their 2011-2012 model? i.e. the "M" mode?
These modern transmissions are all electronically controlled so there has to be a way to tell it "now shift into 2nd", and so on.

If someone had the capabilities to interface with the PCM it is certainly possible....the problem is I don't know if the PCM of that years are capable of just being able to 'turn on that function' or if entirely new code would need to be written.
