Sedan and Wagon Mustangs? WTF?

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl.../61211029/1024

Let me be the first to say this (hope someone from Ford reads this)

I would rather see Ford go out of business than see them tarnish the name like this.

If you want to build a sedan or wagon off the same platform... feel free to call it something else and give it distinctive styling

I realize that the Mustang brand is one of the most recognizable in the world, but putting it on anything other than a RWD 2-door coupe shows how utterly incompetent some of the people in the automotive industry are.

holy sh--
that's messed up.
I'm all for cool new products, i think a small-mid sized RWD sedan, and especially a wagon, would be really cool cars... but yeah... FIND A DIFFERENT NAME!!

There was a recent thread about a ricer forum titled "The most idiotic comment I have read all year" that started off with
the new ford gt? a skyline would kick the **** out of it... The old ford gt40 from the 60's was actually built by lamborgini i believe, wasn't actually made by ford...

Nothing in that thread compares to the Autoweek article.

If I can spell it correctly... "Blasphamy!"

How stupid is this?

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl.../61211029/1065

I can't believe Ford would do this to such an iconic car as the Mustang.

It would be fine if this rear wheel drive (presumably) sedan was actually sold as a Falcon. But to water the Mustang brand down with a sedan version and a freakin' wagon version too no less!? It makes me want to trade my GT in for something else before those atrocities actually hit the market.

Who cares, as long as a coupe version stays around and the car is still fun to drive.

4 door mustang/wagon?

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl...1065/MICROSITE

Maybe they should call it Stampede instead of Mustang.....

Actually, IMO the best idea would be to give any sedans and wagons like this to Mercury, which would justify their existence as a provider of rwd sedans while Ford remains free to concentrate on more mainstream, higher volume fwd models. I can even think of some great names...Meteor, Cyclone, Marauder.......

right off the thought of a Mustang as two people , when have you ever seen four on a horse , this statement I think better applied to the doors, it could work but they are going to sure need alot of public support if they hope to sell them, heck even put a few out to get some public reactions or something.

I swear to ***** if they badge any 4 door or wagon a mustang, I will:

#1) Throw up

#2) Throw up some more

#3) Jump ship...

That would be THE ABSOLUTELY STUPIDEST thing to ***** do.

I hope that they mean, they are utilizing the platform....
but to actually have a 4 door mustang.... is .. uh.. i can't even type anymore...

I too hope Ford hears our comments, because that is totally the wrong way to take Mustang!!! I would most likely sell the two Mustangs I have now and buy a GM product if I EVER saw a 4 door, FWD or wagon Mustang on the showroom floor!!!!! Listen up Ford, this will ruin your Mustang fan base and make you wish you never thought of the idea, I can promise you that.

Some Mustang styling cues and "flavor" (bold retro-yet- modern styling, long hood & short deck, upright grille) would be great on other Ford products, sure, but I don't want a Mustang mini-van. Keep the Mustang what it's always been - a two door coupe/convertible. I might be able to accept a Mustang with rear doors like an RX8, but as an option, not the main body configuration.

They've used Mustang styling cues on other Ford products before, like when they restyled the Falcon in 1966:

notice the "hips", the creases in the body sides inspired by the Mustang's, the shape of the roofline in the rear (c-pillar)...

I think it would be great to use this platform to build a smaller, tight-handling RWD 4-door (a North American brother to the australian Falcon). Throw an IRS and a few extra doors and give it to lincoln or Mercury. But calling it a Mustang would be like AC/DC putting out a pop album and touring with Backstreet boys to reach a larger audience.

But I don't think Ford will do it.

Actually bringing back the Falcon as a 4-door Mustang sedan wouldn't be a bad idea for a 49th anniversary thing since the original Mustang was based on the Falcon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Fa...th_American%29

I heard that the Australian Falcon will be going to a new Orion platform in 2009 that is designed to be Left Hand drive FROM THE GET-GO! So the Aussie Falcons will be converted to RH drive, and the LH drive falcons will obviously be exported somewhere.

I suspect we *might* be seeing some LH drive Falcons for the 2010 or perhaps 2009 MY.

I agree with the idea of calling it the Falcon or something. To kill a muscle car such as our beloved Mustangsin this manner is just plain wrong. It's like when Dodge made a Viper GTS coupe wagon concept in the 90s. The first thing to come to your mind is WTF MAN!!!!!?????? At least dodge Scraped it as fast as they came up with it, but Ford is seriously considering it?
