So question...the dealer that I ordered from and could be all of us, don't know new to the ordereing thing, said that my 2011 would take the place of one of there's that they would be getting. So this might be a stupid question, but do you think mine will be built as a "stock" or as an actual order? Thanks!

That's what I was kind of wondering too. If they are going to be running some stock first, what's to prevent the dealer from picking the same options as one of their retail customers to get the car faster and then just using the retail car when it comes in as stock?

If you put a deposit down and then change your mind, is it possible to get your deposit back? I'm thinking of the circumstances where you won't be able to buy the car, maybe losing your job or having twins or something like that.

Hey Steven, most dealers, for good public PR, will not keep your deposit. In some if not most states, its mandatory that they are 100% refundable. Now, that said, if someone ordered an off-the wall vehicle with something strange (like a Ranger with No A/C), and cancels the deal, the dealership may hold your deposit till they sell the car. Once its sold they will then refund the money. This is some instances I have heard about in the past. But most of the time, you can get your money back no questions asked.

The dealers are originally 'allocated' x-number of cars. Customer ordered cars, ie. retail, units are typically above and beyond that allocation. When the dealer places an order for a customer, it typically will say that on the order itself so that the dealer's allocation amount is not lessened.
Beyond that, it becomes a supply and demand situation with a major influence on the dealer's history of selling higher numbers of cars. If the dealer is in a high demand/high volume league, they will get more earlier than the rural dealers who sell less.

Joe, the second paragraph is correct, but the 1st is a little different now that it was before. A few years agoIf a dealer was allocated say, 3 Mustangs for a month, and they had 2 retails, they would only have 1 extra for their stock inventory. Now a program that started with the 2010 Taurus, Ford implimented was is called Retail Order Verification. This program does NOT take away from regular allocation. They used it for 2010 Taurus orders, Raptor orders and Hybrid orders. The Mustang program is coming but is still not out as of yet. I have been told its coming though. Now, if a dealership is allocated 3 cars, and they have 3 retail orders, they get 6 total cars (well, once the program starts).

Scott we got 4 Mustangs for March, but with them not scheduling any retails at the beginning, that didn't matter. When we have retail orders, we get them built rather quickly. Now with the beginning of a new model year with new powertrains, this may not go as quickly as in the past, as shown by no retails being serialized yet.

Hmm.. Well after not hearing anything from my salesman, I wen't to the dealership today and asked for my DORA. He went up to talk to the fleet manager and came back with the DORA and my build date, which is scheduled for 3/22/10. I was kind of surprised after reading all these posts earlier about retail orders not going through until April. While I am happy to finally hear something about it, I wont hold my breath.

Let me ask you? Does your DORA have your name on it at the bottom? Is the order type listed a "1"? And to let everyone know. The 1st DORAs will NOT show build dates right away. When they serialize a car, and assign it a VIN, the new DORA will show the VIN and should show the build date in regards to week of.

SWEET!! Your one of the lucky ones considering pretty much all regions are not scheduling retail orders.

It is in the upper right hand corner. It should have the page number, then date, then priority number.
