You can tell when you're lugging the engine by the sound, but for whatever reason the coyote doesn't seem to lug like other v8s I've driven. Probably has something to do with VCT.

I do the same. Usually cruise at just over 1k and any passing power I need is one downshift away.

This is very special engine in a vert special car you are driving. Not like previous car models, and find it remarkably smooth cruising down to1000 rpms. Tested down to 800 rpm at 30 mph and 31 mpg!!! And 420 HP!!!!!!!! This TiVCT Ford engine is nothing short of AWESOME.

i have a standard trans 5.0, mine does really well around 1500 rpm at 6th

however the onboard mpg computer says 5th is the where i use less gas..weird

For cruising, I don't like to let it fall below about 1,750 RPMs. I always feel like I am lugging the engine at anything below that. But some of you guys are saying it runs great at even 1,000 RPMs. Hmmmmmm....
