I want to install an Echomaster rear view mirror with 4.3" video screen for a backup camera. How do you take off the rear view mirror without breaking the windshield? The 2013s use a proprietary mount.

Also, once I get the OEM mirror off, where can I get an adapter to mate with the Echomaster mirror, as it does not have the proprietary Ford mount.

Anybody know why Ford switched to this rear view mirror mounting setup for the 2013s?

 

it is a total PITA. i had to use a very small flat blade screwdriver to jam behind and unlock the tab. honestly, If I had to do it again, I'd just go to a glass shop and pay them $20 to do it. they have a special tool.

 

Also BEWARE!!.....If you do indeed Crack/Break the OEM Mustang windshield, You will NOT get a replacement from Ford that has the "Embossed" Pony at the top of the Glass!!

That really stinks! The Pony is awesome on the windshield!

 

Not quite sure why you wouldn't get a replacement window with the Pony on it. Had my windshield replaced by a local glass company who orders Carlite glass directly from Ford and it had the pony. Guess it depends on who you buy from.

 

Who needs the mirror?

 

couple of year sago when I needed to replace my windshield, Carlite was annoyed b/c there weren't any aftermarket alternatives for them, so they had to order OEM. not sure if that is still the case today though.
