They are only held in place with an industrial type velcro, and can be removed easily with a gentle pull. I take mine off every time I wash the car so I can clean the windows. Leaving them off isn't an option cause of the ugly velcro tape Seeing out with them on sucks, but the blind spot mirrors work well to correct that concern.
