Rear end Comparison pic
Rear end Comparison pic
Not to start any flaming on any rear but thought this was a great pic to really compare the 2 side by side. The '10 really does look better at the 05-09 does look boring and plain now.
Give me the 2010+ any day. Sure, the black plastic could have potentially been better-integrated -- or there could have been less of it -- but, overall, in my opinion, the 2010 is a much better, aggressive-looking car when compared to the 2005-09, and I own a 2007 GT. Congratulations on your purchase, Joe!
Wait a minute... let's do this right.
Make the 10 the red one and see how ridiculous the black plastic diaper looks then.
Using a black 10 is obviously a ploy by Joe to hide the horror of the S197 'D'!

Thats cool dude and you are right. But now that i can actually put my car next to a '10 it just does not have the aggressive look like the 10+ has and just looks boring.
Dude no ploy but the only photo i could find straight up from the rear.
2005-09. 2010 still just looks like the overly fussy, slightly discordant work of a committee while the previous iteration looks like a far more cohesive work of a single designers vision. Not that the 2010 is bad, it just is more corporate project than stylistic vision.
I've warmed up to it too. I'm lukewarm about it. Where as before we were in the same boat. I still say I love all three other sides better and for me, for now, the back isn't so bad.
Congrats on your new car order. You won't see me criticizing them here anymore.
Here at 2:48 of this video you can see 2 reds from the rear.

Sure, dark color 10s don't look "as bad". I still think it's too much black plastic. Plus, the exhaust tips on that '10 look bigger, which hardly anyone keeps the stock axlebacks, and I've never liked a big chunk of plastic inserts between the tail lights, so I don't really like the red rear either. Basically, you're comparing a black car with black plastic and nice exhaust tips to a red car with black plastic and small non chrome exhaust tips to try and sway the opinion.
I still think the 10s have too much black plastic. But I think the hoods on the 10s look better, and the V6 10s look better than the 05-09.

The more I look the more I had the tail lights on the 2010. The rearend would look much better with different tail lights. I think most people would agree. maybe a photo shop guy can do alittle work on that.
Maybe this is why I chose to order Kona over Grabber ... less contrast ...
Black diaper Kona Finish
vs.
Black diaper Grabber Finish.
Other than the Hood, Side Profile, and retro '67-69 Concave Section between the taillights, I did not care for the '10 vs. the '05-09 when it 1st was unveiled either.
But, I had myself talked into accepting the black plastic diaper out back on the '10 because of the ease of converting a SIX to DUALS without having to mess with paint.
Thanks goes to Ford for making duals std. on the '11 ... Magnaflow cat-back + GT diaper was going to cost around $1k + labor on a '10.
For the year-round daily driver's out there like me, the other benefit to all the lower black plastic should be less paint chips from tire launched stones and no need to add ugly "spash guards" as they are basically built in.

Completely agree. I really don't mind the plastic bottom at all. And when the thing becomes chipped and ripped thanks to stones and mud, it's going to be cheaper to replace than it would if the entire thing was painted.
