Radio displays just "Mustang"
On my 2010 V6, the radio suddenly just displays "Mustang" and won't work. I checked fuses and disconnected the battery and that didn't help. On the way to the dealership, it suddenly started working, but had stopped again when I got there, again displaying just "Mustang."
The service advisor just called and said the "audio control module" needs replacing. He says it will be $865 installed. The vehicle doesn't have SYNC or anything like that—it's just a straight radio with CD player and auxiliary input jack (which for some reason is in the console and not on the front of the radio). No satellite radio.
Two questions: is the "audio control module" just a technical name for the radio itself? Or is it something else that performs other functions in the car? Can I just replace the factory radio/CD player with an aftermarket unit (which will no doubt be cheaper than $865)?
Thanks.

Yea see if you can snag one off ebay like stated above, or use this as an excuse to go aftermarket. 865 is outrageous. You can get full aftermarket nav. for that price.

Also, would it be a problem going aftermarket that the current auxiliary cable plugs into the console compartment, and not the dash? Would that plug in the console just become a dead plug after installing an aftermarket unit?

There are several ACM's on car part for about $100.. which is average for a used one. If you dont want your old one anymore, I'll give you $10 plus shipping for it

Keep in mind if the tech is wrong about the problem .. then you will have bought this for nothing.

Thanks for the auction link. So is "audio control module" just a fancy, technical name for the radio/CD player? Or is it something apart from the radio that also performs other functions?
