Questions for the folks that have ordered 11s...

I just got back from the dealer, and I was hoping to order an 11 GT today, but we were worlds apart on pricing. I would like to get input from the people that have ordered already.

I priced my car using the 1/15/10 Mustang Price list that was posted here. My car, including destination, came to $ 29,134 dealer price (using the list). I told the dealer I wanted to deal up from this price. I offered $ 500 over this price. I thought this was fair.

The order guy to me that their price was $ 30,900 and he said they were using the dealer invoice w/ holdback pricing. He said that they need a certain profit, and he pays interest once the car ships, etc.

He then tells me that they want 2% on top of the $ 30,900, which is another $ 615, so the car that costs the dealer 29,134 they want to sell me at 31,515. This is still lower than the $ 32,980 sticker price of course.

So, for the folks that ordered:

1. did you use the dealer price column?

2. did you use the dealer price with holdback column?

3. did you pay retail or over that?

4. He also said that this order had to have a lot of profit since any order would affect their allocation of cars? I don't anything about that, but I always thought that they would get more cars sent to them if they sold more cars. Like I had to make it worth their while since my order would affect their allocation of GTs.

Well, any thoughts or help is appreciated.

Retail here. Dealer told me MSRP and nothing above. They also said I would get any incentives offered at time of delivery.

My dealer will order one for me for $1000 over invoice. But you always use invoice with holdback with 99% of the dealers. I am just not ready to give up my 07 yet...since it is half way paid off, and the payments are way lower than the 2011 would be.

You got rooked, though not too badly.

It's up to the dealer whether they use Dealer Price or Dealer Price with Holdback. Holdback, as I understand it, is a fixed percentage that the dealer charges to cover overhead - pays the bills. So you can think of it as Dealer Cost. If the dealer is generous, for a retail order, that won't be sitting on the lot long, they might quote you the Dealer Price. I don't think it's unreasonable that someone charge you Cost for an item. It's still a great price. Throw in a few hundred for the salesperson for being so generous as to not charge you retail, and you have yourself a deal.

The last bit about allocation is the part that worries me. With the retail verification program that has been posted about here on the forums, and confirmed by Jeff, a verified retail order (SSN#, Driver's License, etc) does not count against the dealer's allocation. Your dealer has to know this. So there's no real drawback to ordering a car for a customer if it doesn't count against your allotment. It sounds to me like your salesperson wanted to make a little extra something on the order, knowing that as long as he came in around that holdback number you'd be happy.

I'm going to pay $300.00 over dealer price + holdback. You're paying 600. Still a great deal.

I did it 2 ways actually 1 recommended by people on here and 1 by edmunds or some other internet helper.

1. offer dealer invoice plus holdback
2. offer dealer invoice without holback + 5%

these ended up coming to around the same number but i ended up doing that + 500$

This was still well under msrp and watch out they will try the old, well we can't give you anything off because we don't know what incentives will be availible when your car arrives.

This is an old trick just tell them you don't care about any incentives and you want to agree on a price before you sign anything.

Really with you pre-ordering at the current time (ford knows they have something special by now) you should be happy with anything under msrp.

I'm in the negotiating process now. They have "verbally" agreed to Dealer Invoice+Holdback. But nothing is concrete until Friday when I go back to put the order in. And I'm not signing crap until I see the right price in writing.

Send a PM to Jeff (05fordgt). He can do you a deal for Holdback +300$, and have the car dropped off at a local dealer in Fla. There will be another charge/prep fee for the receiving dealer, but if I recall, it was quite reasonable.

Invoice, and I will get any rebates or incentives in place at time of delivery. Plus, I got NADA extra clean trade-in for my car. I'm very satisfied.

Would you care to guess if there would be any rebates or incentives?
I figure not at first, but honestly have no idea.
Any one want to guess...maybe come fall, winter, etc?

The usual rebates will apply - Student and Military, most likely. Those are usually about 500-1000. After that, it will be a while before we see incentives, I think.

I think as hot as these cars will be selling, Ford won't need to offer any big incentives.

Good luck man. I'm so jealous, but glad you're actually getting it done. I hope they work with you and you get the deal you want. Wanna let me drive it when I'm down there next? Haha we can drive in an open parking lot, since I probably won't have insurance in 2 weeks.
