Question For Those With Rear Seat Delete Kit

I am considering getting the rear seat delete kit for my Mustang from American Muscle. I've heard some grumblings that it's not all that great and I am just trying to get it from those who actually have the kit. If there is anyone on here that has the rear seat delete kit can you comment on how good or bad it is? Is it worth $150? Does it hold up over time? Any information would be appreciated, thanks.

Why do that in these cars? The rear seats aren't heavy at all..it would seem to me that a rear seat delete kit would provide minimal weight savings, home made kits might weigh just as much as the seat, if not more...and the rear seat, useless as it may be, is really really nice looking...one majorly correct retro item in these cars. Fold it down...

If you're handy, check out dmichaels' thread in the grabber blue forum, he just made his own and it looks really good, and cost him a fraction of what the AM kit costs.

I'm wouldn't be doing it for weight saving. I would do it because it's easier to carry stuff back there on a flat surface than on the seats.

Yep, already did. I've been keeping up with that build since I joined the forum. He did a fantastic job too. It looks great. I just don't have the time on the weekends to devote to scratch building a kit. Also I only have a hand saw and that's a project best tackled with a power saw. I was just looking at the ready made kit for the fact that I could be done in 15 or 20 minutes.

Thanks TJ but those are rear X-Braces. I have looked at them as well but that's not what I'm making reference to in this case.

This is a rear seat delete kit. Does Steeda carry anything in that regard? I have full intentions of getting the rear X-Brace that doesn't require welding. I think that's a great option and will help the cornering ability of the car somewhat. Glad that Steeda came out with one that doesn't require removing the rear seat.

Thanks I've been toying with the idea of making a few more to sell, but with the new position at work, I think most of my previously free time is going to be consumed in the upcoming months.

Another source to check out is Watson Engineering - they offer a delete setup that looks to be very high quality. If you're interested, PM me as I'm working out a group buy of their roll bar and could probably get something worked out for discounted rear seat delete. I don't know pricing off hand, but just take a run through their site.

Ahh ... thanks 3point ... my mistake.

I read the thread to quickly & it didn't compute!

Here is the For Racing option - http://www.steeda.com/ford-racing-mu...1-m-6346612-b/

Just another option for you ...

Best of luck!

Hey 3 Sorry I missed this post! If you have the kit purchased and it's just not something that's going to work out shoot me a PM and I'm happy to have a return set up for you! We're incredibly easy to work with so if anything ever comes up, just let me know, I'm a PM away!

Would love to get this kit for my car just to make it more comfortable for my dog in the back. How strong is the base that sits over where the bottom of the seats were? Will it support a person if you have to have someone back there? My dog is 70lbs so hopefully it would support at least 80lbs. I have heard the bottom is very thin material.

Well I tried to return a bra from American Muscle for a 2014 Ford Mustang because it broke quickly and they didn't accept my return all they told me was contact the manufacturer. So yeah returning stuff to American Muscle is a pain in the ***

That's a good question and the kit is sturdy to an extent but I personally wouldn't recommend having a person sitting back there. I think a 70lb dog would be fine if you're running to the store or to the park to play!

Forgive me for forgetting the name. But I believe there is a molded carbon fibre version out there. I've seen a few different versions. But price is definitely a factor if you're talking carbon fibre.

I'm looking at it for the exact same reason...but my dog is only 40lbs (she's taller than a lab but standard poodles are skinny and mine is anorexic so... ). I was told it would be iffy. But it is just plywood so adding some support underneath would be pretty easy to do. My one concern is that it looks from the pics to be sloped forward a little bit, so the front might have to be raised slightly. With that much modification, going custom is looking more and more attractive to me. Go with slightly thicker plywood (5/16 or 3/8) and no bracing necessary. Also, West Paw Design has some dog mats and beds in a color pretty close to the blue accents in my 401A car, so should be able to make a dog-specific arrangement that looks good.

You could easily take the setup that I made and add structural support on the underside with some wood or aluminum bracing (thinking 1/4" square aluminum perhaps). Or you could get slightly thicker plywood which would easily support 40 lbs. I have ~1/2" plywood as the base in my shed, supported at ~18" intervals and I walk on it and park lawnmower, generator, etc etc with minimal deflections. I just used very thin plywood for my rear seat delete because I won't ever be putting anything back there.

And it looks like I dropped roughly 30 lbs after it was all said and done too. I need to weigh things for an official # of course.

Just going to go to a custom interior place and see if they can make me something that will drop into the back seats and make it flat for my dog as well as match the interior. I want it to be removable. Basically just want to throw it in when I have to put my dog in the car then take it right out. After thinking about it I don't want to turn the car into a 2 seater. The back seats as small as they are do come in handy sometimes when you have to throw someone back there for a short trip.
