Quality Defects to look for when delivered

Hey There!

I thought I would start this thread, so the 2013+ vehicle owners that have received damaged or quality issues vehicles can state what they found.

This will help future owners that have a car on order, or even ones that may be on a lot.

The excitement of picking up the vehicle may negate some attention detail that could be used in spotting defects.

If you could, state what the issue was, and where to look for them. And if Ford/dealer took care of it properly.

Thanks for your time, and have a good one.

Yea tell me about it... with the excitement of getting my 1st brand new car I totally missed that this car had prior bodywork, I realized it a few days later... I snapped after I found out and took the car back... I highly recommend anyone taking delivery of a new car to do it in daylight

Wow....ouch for them. I have found a couple of things that bother me a little. One being some defects like dust particles under my paint in a couple spots. Two the paint on the interior edges of the trunk are pretty thin like the sprayer didn't make it all the way down to hit those spots. I have wiped litterally every inch of my paint at one point or another and this bothers me because I don't really want rust to form there although I know that there is a clear on it. Kind of an eye sore.

Yup :-o!! I never been so mad in my entire life!!! Lol I found out when I took it out the garage in the morning, called out of work and took it back to the dealer... they offered to fix it and I refused and told them they can keep it and I'll seek legal action... general manager said its registered to me now so I left the keys and said "tow it then, I'm not putting that back in my garage" 2 days later they call me 2 days later they call me saying they found a similar Race Red so I went with that... I was more upset with myself cuz I do paintless dent repairs for a living. But I guess the excitement of my 1st new car blinded me :-/

Greg- i always thought (dealer) is obligated to disclose such information prior to sale? or at least disclose if you had directly asked "any damage..." nice RR.

I used to think they're honest like that... but over time and dealing with various dealerships, I learned that lots of new cars have lot damage and are patched up and sold as "new" I see it all the time now... I was kinda naive before, but they will do whatever they can for the sale and hope ppl won't notice

I worked at a Ford dealer when I was in college. Let me tell you that it is not uncommon for a brand new car to get damaged during the transit process. Especially while being loaded and unloaded on one of those complex to operate car hauler trailers. Anytime a car was damaged it was promptly taken to the dealer's body shop to be fixed. I saw this several times years ago and it was my understanding that this is not uncommon among all of the dealers. So I will be checking my 13 Shelby GT500 very carefully!

Good luck with the GT500!!

Good point...my Brembo package wheels were stained when the car was delivered...they claim that they must have been exposed to something in transit. Replaced under warranty, thankfully.

I was able to get my dealer to basically leave the car as-is as soon as it rolled off the truck. It was very dirty from the long train ride but I wanted to see it in it's exact condition upon delivery. Much to my surprise, there was not a single thing wrong I could find with the car. No scrapes, dents, or scratches. Guess I got lucky!

I have a couple little things wrong here and there. There is a spec of something under the paint on the passenger side rear above the wheel well. Looks like it was there during the painting process and was never seen. The other is the inside lip of the trunk opening has thin paint like the sprayer didn't get all the way in to get full coverage.

There's almost always an imperfection somewhere... my left quarter panel has a weird paint bubble in front of the rear wheel, all the way at the bottom... basically out of sight so it don't bother me that much I can live with it... I just don't wanna get body work on it... it'll never be the same
