Pre delivery prep....

Question Pre delivery prep....

What's going on 'stangers? I have a question I want to throw out to you guys/girls, I was speaking to a friend of mine who bought a Camaro about a year ago and he was telling me that before I take delivery of my GT I should go to my dealer and do all the necessary paperwork, etc before the car get's here, so that when it finally does arrive I don't spend hours at the dealer. He said that when he got the call that his car arrived he couldn't drive it home for a few days due to the fact of all the paperwork and I guess credit approval. So MS'ers what is your advice...?

Get the paperwork out of the ahead of time. Have always had pre approval for money done when i ordered my cars. That way when dealer called in the morn. and said car was here all they had to do was pre-delivery checks and i had the car that afternoon.

Yeah thats what I was thinking cause I'm already pre-approved for the financing. So I guess the best thing to do is to put my down payment in before hand. How does starting the insurance work? (this is my first new car)

I signed all paperwork and negotiating after my car arrived the same day. Took about 4-5 hours and it probably caused me to agree on certain terms that I didn't want simply because I was tired and wanted to drive the car home

You can do the same thing with your Ins. Agent. Take your sales order in your agent can give you a idea what the various coverage will cost you and set up a pre binder for you. If you have a build date the better.

On the day I went in to sign the papers, I had a check for the amount from my Credit Union. I signed the sales papers, they went to prep the car. I went to lunch, with my check in my pocket. I came back after lunch, checked the car out (it was parked inside and immaculate), went through SYNC with the salesman who programmed my cell into it for me. Went to the finance guy gave him the check, picked up my copy of the sales agreement and left.

You do not have to sit around for five hours. You are the customer with the money. You tell them what you are going to do, don't ask them. You are in control.

Since I was remaining with the same insurance company, I had five business days to change the car over. I went home and did it on line.

I have never understood why people allow car dealers to treat them like dirt. On the other hand, I never undestood why car dealers treat customers like dirt. I cannot think of another business that would treat customers badly and stay in business.

I had everything worked out with the credit union before I placed my order. The loan officer said "everything is filed, just email me when the car is there and we will finish up.

The car arrived, the dealer called me at noon. I scheduled to be at the dealer at 6:15p to get the car. The dealer called me a couple of times to ask questions and they emailed me the final car price (x-plan) after I turned down the "upgrades". I forwarded that to the credit union and was done.

I got there at 6:15, inspected and drove the car, had my phone paired and a quick SYNC primer. I signed the paperwork and was out of there in and 75 minutes. Easy. I have the gecko for insurance so I came home and added the car online.

Wow! Things must be different in larger areas. Every new vehicle I have bought I have shown up, filled out all the paperwork and left within 45 minutes, an hour maximum.

As for insurance, I have 30 days of coverage on anything I buy. I will go sign the papers after I bring it home.

Due to the current truth in lending laws arranging the financing is a little more intense but I see no reason for it to take days.

Since I have a build date I will probably call the salesman after the new incentives come out. (I am really annoyed I never received a coupon!) That way I can be sure I don't get stuck. I will walk away before I take more than 60 minutes to get everything done.

One more thing is I am NOT paying the dealership to file for the title. I did that once and my son did also. Both times we had to refile because they screwed it up. Read it all very well so that you don't pay for some cockamamie charge like that.

My car was prepped already & I had cashier's check from my CU for the entire amount so I coudn't have been more ready. It still took a good 1-1/2 hours. I'll echo everything stated above, except to add the following:

1) Be sure you do a THOROUGH walk-around to catch any cosmetic damage or shortcomings BEFORE you sign papers. ALSO check out the interior pieces for cosmetic issues, which are much tougher to get addressed by warranty once you've signed the papers and driven away.

2) Insurance: varies by state; I have 30-days automatic coverage after I buy a new (or used) car, so a simple phone call locks in the coverage (hopefully you already did your homework prior to your pruchase and know what your insurance will cost). But here's the thing - even if your dealer tells you they will report your purchase to your insurance company, YOU must call within the 1st 30 days! I got caught on this one once, figuring my purchase was already reported by the dealer. But your insurance company needs to hear from YOU, and have YOU tell them what coverages you want on your new car!
