Maybe someone on the boards could 'cad' these ideas and post them because I don't yet know how to do much computer-wise. Here are some ideas; [1] Side view; give the roofline more of a fastback look..like 67-68 fastback including the roof contour into the decklid [again, like 67-68]. But around our faux gas door, contour it inward like 67-68 and have the tail-lights follow that same contour! [2] Next, instead of the quarter glass, place an inverted scoop like the 69 Mach 1 in the 'c' pillar.. leaving the possibility of actual function..if wanted. [3] Leave doors and fenders as is but extend hood length by 2 inches so when you angle back to the existing fenders, it gives the headlamp area a deeper more angled look like 69 Mach 1. Give it the 69 grille and a GT 500 front and rear fascias and you have what I think might be a nice combination.

Like you, I wish I could turn the dream Mustang that's in my head into a 3d computer image but, alas, I have zero Photoshop skills.

My dream is to take a '69 and bring it up to date just as the new Camaro evokes the '69 Camaro. I'd want the forward sloping shark nose (to Hell with aerodynamics!) and the side window treatment of the '69. I'd lose any side air intakes but flare out the hips to the max. At the rear I'd want the '67/'68 concave rear light panel look. Inside, I'd happily take the original '05 concept car look.

With the help of a few PS gurus here, this is what I've got so far:

Close, but as futuristic as most concepts out there. I mean truely retro on our present body style.

As much as I would like to see the current S-197 more of a true fastback. The windshield posts would need to be moved upward, along with the roofline having a flatter curve before sloping into the rear decklid ala 67/ 68. Otherwise the rear will look way too flat, and butt heavy, similar to the 71-73 Mustang flatback lol.

This topic was also covered under a similar thread, back in Jan. I'll attach the thread link for those who may find it helpful.

Would the S-197 look better as a full/true fastback ?

Not bad, but the red looks too much like a new Camaro front end and the white too much like a Camaro rear at the passenger area/roof line

Thank you! That is exactly what I was talking about! Every photolab there did , in one way or another, describe my thoughts about true retro design. If the rear shots could invert the decklid at the gas door, and invert the tail-lights the same way, it would look awsome! Just like the 67 fastback!

I liked the modern look of the cars ,but they did remind me of the camaro and challenger. I guess it is because I love my mustang, but would prefer a more contemporary version with more modern conveniences, better ride, less noise intrusion from the tires etc.We are all growing older and love the memory of our earlier stangs ,but would love the comfort and convenience of a more contemporary version, rather than driving a fusion, xks, taurus type family cars. At 67 I am a long way away from wanting an old folks car as my daily driver!

This is the narrow line one walks when one attemps to change a given line on a body . The trick is to change little things and space these changes out evenly over the entire body... not an easy task!

Once again, a critical balance. Let's face it, we probably each had first and second generation Mustangs, [I know I did] and remember the 'crudeness' of the beasts.I definately agree the '05-'08 'stang is TONS better! But why not have the best of both worlds? Retro styling with today's technology! Add I agree also that though I might be 53, if you see me in a La Sabre, you know I have a brain tumor...if you see me in a mini-van, you know the tumor has grown!
