Are you talking about overrev or just high rpm downshifts? Because I concede the fact that **** can fail if you force your motor to spin out to 9k. But again, I still think you're going to snap a rod bolt or oval a journal before you pull your rods the extra .08 whatever inches to slap the valves. Also, by that theory, wouldn't anyone using a Jake brake stretch their rods and get PtV contact?

I prefer to use as much aerodynamic/gravity braking as possible and stay in motion until I have to brake. I'll drop gears as I need to prevent lugging.

Always downshift to help slow me down. Rev match when driving more aggressively or to hear that sweet exhaust and ze burble. on ocassion if I'm tired ill just put it in neutral and use the brakes.

Depends of how fast I'm going. If I'm coming to a red light from 20mph, I'll just put it in neutral and hit the brakes. But stopping from say 60mph, yeah I might kick it down to 5th, 3rd then neutral as I'm applying light brakes. A little bit of engine braking to help the brakes.

But you have to rev-match, or at least not do any drastic downshifts. That will just wear your clutch out.

I don't downshift when coming to a complete stop - brakes are way cheaper than a clutch to replace. I downshift plenty in regular driving though, especially when I'm out on country roads heel-toeing.
