Oil Life meter not decreasing
#21
Question: Why would ford make itself legaly liable if the OLM is not a accurate measure of oil life?
I mean if you only change the oil when the OLM tells you to and then something breaks due to the oil not being changed regularly enough then Ford is pretty much on the hook becase they are in a way saying, "Yes, this car can go 10k+ miles on one oil change and filter."
So if that is the case you better bet your last dollar that Ford had their engineers verify a million times that the OLM is accurate.

The gauge itself does not create "legal liability". If it did, you could run your car out of gas, and then sue Ford if your gauge didn't read "empty".
However, I believe that your owner's manual does recommend 10k mile intervals. Again, that itself does not create a "legal liability" but it does indicate that Ford engineers likely DID verify (although maybe not quite a million times) that the typical engine will operate fine within that parameter. (That is one reason (of several) why oil capacity is large. As a comparison, my wife's 08 V8 Mountaineer holds 5 qts, and the recommended interval is 5000 miles (if I remember correctly.)

Personally, I err on the conservative side, and change more frequently, as a mechanic friend recommended that to me in the Houston area as the air is dusty (continuous construction), and that would shorten the life of the oil & filter.
