Oil Filter

I am getting ready to do the first oil change in my 5.0 and I remember reading on here that people upgraded the filter to a Ford racing one but I can't find the thread or remember the part number.

Can anybody list the part number for the stock one, the ford racing one, and maybe some other premium filters.

The 5.0 does not use an 820 right? It uses a shorter one or something?

Amsoil recommends a Wix 57502, is that a good filter?

Go 5W30 , won't hurt anything and you'll end up with better lubrication.

On the oil filter, there's nothing wrong with any of the previously listed options. However, I am partial to K&N oil filters. Why? Because their filter is going to perform as well as any other premium one, plus it comes with a 1" nut on the end, making it much easier to remove than any other filter I've seen, including ones with the nice grippy surface like Purolater Gold.

Here's the right one for the 5.0: http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=HP-2011

10w30 would be my choice on oil. In terms of a filter, I'd go with a K&N or a RP one.

I highly recommend sticking w/ factory recommended oil weights.. high #.. thicker oil..
1st number cold weight, 2nd number warm weight..

Example..
5w20 compared to 10w30
5w Thinner at colder (startup temp) than 10w
20 Thinner at warmer (normal operating temp) than 30

This was another post going around about the TICK noise..

Just my opinion.. but I would DEFINATELY use a FULL Synthetic Oil

Wix are the same as Napa Gold filters FYI. One may be easier to find than the other. Definitely a good filter though. I know UnleashedBeast on SVTP posted some recommendations for oil filters, but I don't have it in front of me.

I just use the factory ford filter. Easy to get, and inexpensive.

With good synthetic oil in there, and regular changes, I see problem.

I would also stick with ford's suggest weight oil also. And I would go with a longer filter over the shortie if there is a choice.

What's the general consensus on the appropriate mileage at the first oil change?

Seems to be around 1,500-2,000 maybe. Sure doesn't hurt to do that as a precaution.

I'm changing mine at 6500 miles. I see no need for an early oil change.

I'm going to RP 5w30 in hopes to be rid of my engine tick... I'm also going to use the additive from ford. Still deciding on filter. I'll make the switch this afternoon

I thought the recommended interval was 10,000 miles?
