Oil change Blue Mtn. vs Mobil 1 full synthetic WOW!!
SO I got my oil changed today and my mechanic told me he uses Blue Mountain which is like Peak. I am a Mobil 1 man, but he said trust me you are paying for the name. So I came home and looked it up, here are the specs. I was surprised they are so close. Let me say this is the first time I have ever heard of Blue Mountain and I have no affiliation with either company in any way. My last car had Mobil 1 full synthetic for 7 years. I did not change my oil with the mechanic I have now during that time hence never hearing of Blue Mountain oil.

It's a personal choice. Using one synthetic compared to another isn't going to blow your engine or hurt longevity as long as you perform regular maintenance.

Only the extended performance is a true synthetic. The regular Mobil 1 had it's formula changed years ago and is no longer a full synthetic despite what they've been falsely advertising.

I'm not a Mobil 1 fan boy . I switched from Motorcraft 'full' synthetic ($90 with filter) to Mobil 1 ($45 with filter) for my v6 (6 quarts). I'm on my 2nd oil change using the Mobil 1. It says its full synthetic on the bottle.

Her is a great read on oil for the Mustang:
https://themustangsource.com/forums/...cation-532984/
I talked with an Amile Engineer and they tell me Ford has gone to a Spec -C for there performance cars. It has more Zinc and Cleaners if you will. He said they do have racing oil but Fords specs for -B and -C they don't make. He advices to stick to there specs that they are much better than alot of oils.

Here are the specs on the Extended performance, not much difference.
Im not bashing anyone here, but more wanting to know the real deal on all this synthetic talk when it comes to our money.
I mean Blue Mountain compared to Mobil 1 extended synthetic, is there that much of a difference?

Pennzoil, Castrol, Mobil 1 etc... are hydrocracked dino oil blends

They lobbied to have the requirements changed so they could call it a true synthetic. Which its not.

If i didn't care about price, i would use Royal Purple (have in the past) or Amsoil.
Any 'name brand' oil is going to be good oil. Just like gasoline, the 'name brands' have a lot more cleaners and additives.
Just my opinion

For most people, the oil won't make a difference as it takes a lot of stress (i.e. racing conditions) to put the stress on the engine and develop the level of heat that leads to oil deterioration. for daily driving, I've always struggled with buying into one oil vs another one...
Get out on a road course and drive the crap out of the car and you'll want oil that does not shear or break down quickly.
agree on the posts above regarding the M1 synthetic vs full synthetic. There are different base stocks (group III vs IV vs V) and most "synthetic" oils are III/IV blend or IV.
