Observations about who comments on your Mustang
If you bought a mustang for power alone... why, get an appearance package? With stick on side scoops, and cute graphics- Does it make it faster?
To your point rarely does anyone solely- 100% buy a mustang on looks alone. This would mean satisfaction from the same shell and a 200 hp car... So it's safe to assume the power curve is something that is appreciated by all.
This thread is about people we come across who appreciate the look behind the 2010+.
In my 19 months of ownership I've received lots of comments. From As simple as "nice car", to others 5 min profound explanation of what they like about it. From gas stations, to car shows, stop lights to parking lots, to my own drive way, to this very message board... compliments happen. Usually it's best to be accepting rather than to scoff and be all, "Meee? buy a car for looks?!? You're telling me i have a nice car because of the specs right? Did you read about the way it handles!? There's 412 underated HP all up in here! It's super fun to drive, but you can't relate can you? aww yea, that's too bad... have a good one!"
If a kid were to pay you such a comment, are you going to just be all, "oh yea- never mind how it looks- 'got it for how it performs, drives and the fun of it.' " Get serious.
The redesign in 2005 triggered a HUGE response from buyers- namely for it's look- and at the time a 300hp car with a huge performance aftermarket was even more appealing. 2010+ look carried this into the 21st century.
I'm not discrediting your view point, but don't be so dense- with your American Muscle Machismo...
Do you really think the majority of buyers - across generations - bought the S197 merely so they could say "look friends and workmates, I'm driving a 60's car"?
Most bought it to fulfill their own memory based pleasure. I rode in a friends 65 2+2 throughout high school but didn't get to own one. I never got to even drive one until after I actually ordered & purchased my own - no test drive needed. I am not alone. Yet many others also bought it because it was the best looking/best performing American V8 muscle car from 05-08 (no Chally, no Camaro). Many younger buyers recognize what a great American car it is.
Hell I don't see people for days or weeks, live in the middle of nowhere here on the ranch, and 901 is garaged 5 months of the year due to snow & ice. When I fire it up and hit the 2 lane twisties, its for me! Nobody is around. Nobody rides with me. It is a souce of extreme pleasure for me - in the phase of my life I could actually order one with a degree of financial comfort. I am certainly not alone in that.
But that's just me. And I am sure glad I got one for my own personal pleasure! If anyone notices and lays out a compliment that's a nice thing to hear. But it had zero influence in my decision to order Steve McQueen's Mustang.
(EDIT: Sorry if I wandered... just following the spider's thread last night...)

a.) That's cool and all- but with the 05 model came hype and hysteria that hasn’t been seen since its original launch.
And no, I don't- but to acknowledge the fact that the car's looks as part of a reason towards a purchase isn't hard to believe. Retro stared with VW (BUG), worked it's way into Ford and really caught on. Economy, timing, design, $, marketing, industry- were all prime in 2005-09. But if the 2005 mustang was designed after the 2004 Metro Tempo, something so asinine- would you still have bought it? Or would the nameplate have been enough.
b.) 2005-2009 was a different world. Biggest slump in economy since arguably the Great Depression and competition surfaced. For me, comparing the 2 isn't so black and white. And comparing sales like, 'omg we win we sold more' is juvenile. There's too many threads out there most by the same posters and- in my findings, the 2010 are well received. For me, the 2005-2009 look so dated next to a 2010+; they don't employee more styling design other than a straight line and interior is made from old laundry bins. Your bullitt vs my 2010 (stock to stock) is virtually the same car underneath- but I prefer overwhelming the shell of the 2010. is the 05-09 a great car, emphatically yes! but it's moved over. Just our view differ.
This is all I'm getting at... Those that get "Mustang", I'd like to think yourself- and myself included didn't buy for this. Full agreement- but Did we feel like hot Sh
t driving of the lot- I did.
And if someone is too absorbed to realize that then, not my deal I guess.

Then why did you buy one? I see rusty ol Mustangs from 1994 to 2009 ALL the time around here. The 2010+ Mustang design is gorgeous and turns heads. If that's not a factor then you should have bought a Smart car (they are pretty rare around here). If you just wanted power and didn't care about looks you could have gotten a Subaru or a truck.
A car, much like a job and a woman, are things that improve your image and status (this is not the only benefit these three items provide, obviously). There is nothing wrong with that. I'm not sure where you are from, but in DC, image is EVERYTHING (Hollywood for ugly people). You can only play rebellious college kid for so long before you realize you're a joke. Everything is not black and white; just because you care what other people think about things you buy that are based on looks (clothes, car) doesn't mean it compromises your identity.
I just mean since many of your peers would probably opt for the usual BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Acura, Lexus, or Range Rover, it seems like you are actually bucking the trend and going with what you like instead of what's popular in terms of image.

I Love my mustang, and all of the previous Mustangs I have owned in the past. They are good cars, I have not belittled them
In any way and if it seems I have I did not. Everything I have said is a fact. Mustangs and Mazda's are made every day. I am sorry but I don't feel like I am some kind of lucky and special person because I can pay $3XX.XX a month for my car. Mustangs ( mostly all fords) are produced for the masses. Why do you think in 1965 there were over 500,000 mustangs sold.
You bought this car because of the way it looks, I get that. Seems most people do. I am different. Not everyone is the same as you.

Anybody else get car stalkers?
I walked back to my car from a store to find a dude & his GF/W checking out my car in the parking lot. During the ensuing conversation, he says, "You work at [address] and park in [specific part of lot]. See, I've got photos of your car on my cell phone. Your car [was at the time] the only 2011 sold by the local Ford dealership. I went there and checked up on it."
My car gets attention from men, mostly. The ones who approach me usually have had one or more Mustangs themselves.

I've been reading all the threads and it looked like some of you started to exit on the off ramp.About the Mustang, it is a car i've lusted for since I was a kid. I finally own one and I am so **** happy.2006 convertible GT silver with two black stripes from end to end. I just love the way it looks and the way it stands when parked. What else can I say but when I'm driving it I hate it when I reach my destination.
Wow, What a train wreck, from people saying that a car is made for the masses, all cars are. Even low production cars are made for the masses to lust after, mass appeal is what makes a lambo so desirable or a ferrari, or pagani, or even a lotus. As for the mustang being mass produced, doesn't change it's performance, or driving characteristics, perhaps theres a reason it's so popular.
Also CU Boulder is a fantastic institution, just like any other well accredited research institution. You get out of any university what you put in, simple as that.

I'm sorry but I'd like the compliments to stop. Everywhere I go, I have to constantly thank strangers or have detailed conversations with them. I just came to the store for some milk, not have a car show in the parking lot. Thank you very much

I think a lot of the difficulty started when 2011GT/CS said something about not buying a car to be looked at. Most of us enjoy our cars getting attention, but nobody I know bought his car to be looked at.
Later 2011GT/CS stated that he didn't buy it JUST for people to look at him. "JUST" became an important point. For the remainder of the thread 2011GT/CS would speak down on people who buy this car JUST for people to look at them.
NO ONE has stated ANYWHERE on this thread that they spend the 40k JUST to get attention. Most of us are longtime mustang fans. We love the rumble of the engine. We enjoy the heritage of the 5.0. We like the retro looks, the improved handling, the awesome sync package. That said, lately I've had several Camaro drivers pull up next to me and give me thumbs up. OKEY DOKEY, I have to admit that I enjoy it. MOST OF US DO!

I got my Mustang cus of the way it looked, I was either gonna a Challenger or Camaro or Mustang, and I went with the best looking one of the group. I became a Mustang fan after I got my own Mustang.
