OBDII cable gets in way while driving (fixes?)
OBDII cable gets in way while driving (fixes?)
I'd like to occasionally connect my SCT X4 for real time monitoring (A/F, coolant temps, just because I'm curious). The only issue is that my leg usually ends up pulling the OBDII cord out while running the clutch. Are there any clips available to secure the cable, or 90* connectors that 1) work with the SCT X4 and 2) allow the cable to run straight up the dash (other cables I've seen would route it right/left, not up)?
Do not know if you are interested but had a customer show me something called "Torque Pro" It is available for purchase on Amazon. Its purpose is for diagnostics mostly but is a bluetooth device you plug into the OBD2 port. Add their app to your smart phone and you can display any info you choose right on your phone. I believe it was less than $15.00. Would eliminate your cable. But I do not own one so I cannot provide feedback on function.
Yeah, I've heard of those and have considered buying it. I figured if a $10 cable would do the job then I could save myself $20...plus I'm worried about the quality of cheap wireless products.
It would be nice to have the bigger screen of my phone, versus the X4...I'm welcome to feedback from folks with that as well.

problem is the socket is 'up' instead of horizontal...points the plug right where your left leg goes...
Ive got a PLX/Kiwi bluetooth adapter running torque (GREAT app- the 'track recorder' superimposes any gages you want onto the camera, pretty slick)
and the cable is a pain on the mustangs...works fine on all our other cars. I *think* the socket can be removed from the dash, maybe fab a angle bracket or just tuck it farther up under the dash. I have a couple other bluetooth adapters without the cables, even those are in the way of your left leg (the PLX is solid reliable, the others, nah...) not really sure why PLX put their bluetooth chip at the end of a 5 foot cable, but it does link up well.

I will look into relocating the port. I think even a bluetooth adapter would stick out too much, it's RIGHT where my left leg sits.
Maybe I can remount it up on the firewall somewhere. Maybe even run the cable through the center console somewhere and make it all look nice and neat. No more cables running around the pedals...

I ordered a scan tool device off of eBay for like 12 dollars despite reading countless posts about don't buy a cheap scan tool device made in China crap. I figured let me see for myself. So i ordered the cheap scan tool and used it about a dozen times. The scan tool just stopped working one day when I went to use it. Lol.
I also run torque pro and its a really good app. I would caution and recommend for those who purchase the Bluetooth reading device DON'T BUY A CHEAP 12 DOLLAR MADE IN CHINA ONE. They work for a very short time and then stop working. I say this not from numerous reviews about this but my personal experience with the purchase of a cheap 12 dollar scan tool.
