Straight out of the owners manual:

"Do not downshift into 1 (First) when your vehicle is moving
faster than 15 mph (24 km/h). This may damage the clutch and/or
transmission".

LOL...In participating in a popular F150 forum, I find that at least 25% of the questions posted could be answered by checking the owners manual. My favorites are always fuse questions ("what fuse should I check for the xxx"). Doesn't happen here much though. I guess the cars are too new, and folks still have them (owners manuals).

I'm old. I actually take the owners manual in the "library" and read it. Funny thing...lots of good stuff in that book.

Always take reading material into the "Library" never know when it may come in handy.. LOL On the serious side being a IT guy I don't read any thing tech wise cover to cover, However when in Question of something I don't know off the top of my head i will look to reference from a manual, book or Google before I do anything. And def would read the book before I posted it in a public forum.. LOL

Remember the GT can go to 7k RPM.... it sounds better and has more "push" when rev'd high. I've hit 90 in 4th with no problem.
For me I try to get to 6th ASAP to bring rpm back to 1500 to save gas but 4th definitely sounds best

Is it ok for the motor to be at 6th gear at less than 2k rpms at extended periods? For example cruising 50mph at 6th gear. I am not experiencing engine bog.

Good idea! Saves paper too. I'm supprised Ford has not gone the way of some car manufacturers and just provide the manuals on a usb stick. My wifes last purchase of a car came this way.

Yes. This engine has so much torque that it doesn't really bog down until about 1200 rpm. If you're just going to cruise at constant speed, you can be in 6th at 45 mph easily (and save gas). However it won't accelerate well at those rpm.
