Had one guy ask why i put 5.0 badges on my '10. Had a Camaro driver say nice car to bad it has a measly 4.6 in it. Im like dude look at the badges.
Unless you are a car junky the average person does not know the difference. I have a Daycare and all the people have seen my '08 for 2 yrs. Now they have seen the '11 and not one has said anything about it thinking its the '08 still.
I think the new body style should have gone hand in hand with the new drive trains as we are just lumped in with the '10's according to the general public.
Good! I would have ordered it in the V6 Body if they would have let me.

You have to look at it from Ford's point of view. A new body in 2010 increases 2010 sales. A new powertrain in 2011 increases 2011 sales. In some cases they even sold a 2010 and a 2011 to the same person. Ford would have a significant change ever year if they could.

2005 - S197 Intro
2006 - Dropped the ball here.
2007 - GT500
2008 - Bullitt
2009 - Dropped the ball again
2010 - Major Update of Body and fine tuning of powertrain
2011 - New Powertrains
2012 - Boss

Ask any '96+ Mustang GT owner. I bet at least once some has asked if it has a 5.0 or 302. I have an '04 GT and have been asked so many times if my car has a 302 or 5.0 that I lost count. When I tell them it's a 4.6 they think it's a V6. I got to the point were I don't even correct them and just agree because it's pointless.

my son & I were out other day, seen a red GT with Shelby badges on it, now if it was a better tastefully done tribute car maybe I'd understand but why would someone go for the faker look ?

And really, at the end of the day it shouldn't matter if other people know what you drive, be it a master piece or a clunker. How about the Bugatti Veyron Crash video into the lake, where they think the car is a lambo... Sadly, a lot of people probably thought the same.

Really at the end of the day, it's a mustang. And that's where I level with people. If they mix up the year, make, type, engine, whatever, what's the big deal...

I was at a car show today looking at this mid '50s Ford car with a 5.0 in it. The guy was really nice and told me it came out of a '92 mustang. I proceeded to tell him the 5.0 was back. He acknowledged me, but didn't understand I was talking about the '11 'stang. I then elaborated to him how it had over 400 horsepower and he was surprised. Even car guys don't know about the new powertrains!

That's pretty funny, I know so much about the new 5.0 while most don't even know that it exists.

Man working in Autozone just about every day I can't tell you how many people who don't know what year/submodel/engine they have, almost as many men as women so it's not a gender thing. Had one guy swear up and down my 04 Mach 1 had a 5.0 in it and I believe he didn't think my 86 GT was a 5.0. Plus I get to see all sorts of abominations every day to, I can barely stand to look at the Mach 1 that one customer has ruined.

This is so true it's not funny! I deal with people everyday who couldn't tell you what model their car is, much less what engine is in it.
I had a V-6 Charger as a test patrol car for a while (piece of junk!) and people would ask me about it all the time. They always wanted to know how fast it was so I told them it would do 180mph no sweat. No one called me on it. Even with it running they couldn't tell it was a V-6 and not a V-8.

It's not just the public,
I remember back in 1984 I was at a Ford dealer looking at a new GT with 5.0 Liter 4V HO .I knew everything about this car but the salesman told me it had the new 4valve racing heads

I said oh really 4 valve heads? I ran not walked away from this dealer. The 4V was the type of carb and not the number of valves.

I can excuse the general public but not a salesman

Salesmen are the worst. They should know more about the cars but they don't. All they know about is getting you in this car today!
