New noise to figure out.

Looking for transmission and/or clutch help. I have a noise I'd like opinions on the cause.

The noise is a faint almost a rattle or low frequency buzz. Like a woodpecker is tapping the underside of my car under certain circumstances.

The car must be in gear (6 speed manual) with the clutch fully released. You have to be at a throttle position where the car really isn't accelerating or decelerating but just cruising. I hear it most when I'm puttering to get out of my neighborhood. The frequency of the sound seems relative to wheel speed and not rpm. So if you are in 3rd at 3000rpm or 4th at 2000rpm you get the same sound.

When you push the clutch in the sound stops. If you are rolling, but not in gear, you can release the clutch fully and there is no noise.

My guess is that a damper Spring has worked loose, and I need a new clutch.

Any thoughts?

How long has it been going on? How many miles on the car? It sounds like it could be a bit of gear rattle in the transmission. I don't think the MT82 is especially prone to this and mine is pretty quiet. Good luck.

Really not too certain. I recently put a slightly softer exhaust on. Thats about when I noticed it. I can't really say its a gear noise as it happens in several and stops when you push the clutch in. Id imagine something down in the transmission would keep right on making noise.
